Prayer for alcoholic ###

Your request has been heard and we will bring your daughter before the Lord daily as you have asked, pleading for His mercy on her body and soul.

We know the burden you carry as a mother who watches her child suffer. The Gospel shows us how much a mother's faith can do before Christ. When the Canaanite woman cried out for her daughter, Jesus said great is your faith, let it be done for you as you wish, to teach us that her persistent prayer contributed greatly to her daughter's healing. In the same way your faithful, daily prayer for your daughter is not in vain. God hears the cry of a mother who will not stop interceding.

Do not grow weary even if you do not see change at once. Healing often comes as physicians treat a sickness, applying medicine again and again without ceasing, even when the patient remains ill. Sometimes a tree receives many strokes and does not fall, then falls with one final blow, yet it was all the blows together that brought it down. So it is with the word of God and with prayer. Even if ten prayers or ten exhortations seem to have no effect, the next one may be the one where grace breaks through and bears abundant fruit. Persevere in love and in prayer, even to what seems like the very gates of destruction, for with God it is possible to recover and lay hold on life again.

Scripture tells us that Christ came to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, and that He has led captivity captive. Alcohol has taken your daughter captive and has made her sick, but Christ is stronger and mighty in battle, able to divide the spoils of the strong and set the captive free. True beauty and health is of the soul, and God promises to restore that beauty when a person turns from the old life and forgets the sins and idols of the past, so that the King may desire her renewed soul.

We will pray that the Lord will have mercy on her, grant her repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, break the chains of drinking, heal her body where she is already sick, and give her a new heart that desires what is pure. We also pray for you, for strength, wisdom and peace as you love her.

Please continue to encourage her to seek help without delay. Urge her to see a doctor for her sickness, to confess her need to a trusted pastor, and to walk closely with faithful believers who will support her sobriety. Love her without enabling the drinking, speak the truth with gentleness, and keep placing her into the hands of Christ who alone can save and heal.

Let us pray together:

Father in heaven, have mercy on this daughter who is bound by alcohol and is now sick in body. You see her affliction and the sorrow of her mother. Lord Jesus Christ, you came to set captives free, we ask you to deliver her from this bondage, forgive her sins, heal her body and make her whole. Grant her to turn from this path, to forget the old way of sin, and to find life and beauty in you. Give her mother endurance in prayer and hope that does not fail. We ask this in the name of Jesus, trusting in your compassion and power. Amen.

We will continue to remember her before the Lord each day.
