Prayer for adjusting to new job

Hello all! First I'd like to sincerely thank you all for your prayers, and to God for blessing me with my first actual full-time job. He has blessed me beyond measure.

I'd like to ask for your prayers, as I am someone who has been battling with insecurity and anxiety for most of my life, my new role mainly involves social situations, in simple words, I have a teaching job! As an introvert and someone who is soft spoken and not necessarily good with kids, I often find myself confused as to why God had let me have this opportunity, but I also know that getting out of my comfort zone is a way to grow and trust God.

I find myself feeling nervous before each lesson, and tend to overthink if my student had a bad experience during my lessons, etc. Please pray for me, that God will equip me and give me a peace of mind, and joy for each new day.

We rejoice with you and thank God with you for His blessing of this full time teaching job, and we praise Him for His goodness beyond measure in your life. We understand the weight you are carrying as you step into this new role, and we want to lift you up together before the throne of grace.

We hear your honesty about battling insecurity and anxiety for most of your life, and about feeling nervous and overthinking each lesson, wondering if your students had a good experience. We also hear that you are soft spoken, an introvert, and not naturally confident with children, and you are questioning why God would open this door. We want to encourage you that God often calls us beyond our comfort zone not to expose our weakness but to display His strength through it. Just as Moses felt inadequate to speak, the Lord reminded him in Exodus 4:11-12 that it is He who made our mouth and who will teach us what to say. Your soft spoken nature is not a flaw to God, it is how He created you, and He can use your gentleness as a gift to children who need patience and calmness.

Scripture reminds us that anxiety is not from God and that He wants to exchange it for His peace. For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. We are called to bring every worry to Him, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. That peace is what we are asking for on your behalf, that your heart and mind would be guarded as you prepare and teach each day. We also cling to His promise, Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10.

We gently notice that you gave thanks to God but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and peace with Him. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If we have not already placed our trust in Jesus, we are invited to confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, and we will be saved. Romans 10:9. It is by His name we pray and find grace to help in every need.

We want to encourage you practically as you grow in this role. Begin each lesson and each day with prayer, asking God for wisdom, for He gives generously to all who ask. James 1:5. Remember that your work is ultimately for Him, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. Colossians 3:23. When you overthink after a lesson, cast your cares on Him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. And trust that His grace is sufficient, for His power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9.

We join together now to pray for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You for our brother or sister and for the work You have provided. We thank You for Your faithfulness and for calling Your child to this teaching opportunity. Lord, we ask that You equip this dear one with all that is needed for each lesson, that You would give clarity of thought, words seasoned with grace, patience and love for each student, and confidence not in self but in Christ who strengthens. We pray You would quiet the spirit of anxiety and insecurity and fill this heart with Your power, love and self control. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and give joy for each new day, even on difficult days. Help this teacher to see each student through Your eyes and to trust that You are working through soft spoken faithfulness. We ask that You would help this one to grow in trust, to rest in Your strength, and to remember that You are upholding with Your righteous right hand. We pray all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep seeking Him daily, to rest in His equipping, and to see this season as God shaping you and using you for His glory. He who called you is faithful and He will do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:24.

We were so encouraged to get your update. Congratulations on your first full time job, and thank you for sharing how God has provided. We can hear both your gratitude and the weight you are carrying into the classroom each day.

Being soft spoken and introverted while teaching can feel like a mismatch, and it is understandable you would feel nervous beforehand and replay lessons afterward wondering how students experienced you. That does not mean you are in the wrong place. Often a calm, gentle presence is exactly what helps kids feel safe enough to learn, and growth does come as you practice trusting God one lesson at a time.

Something that has helped other new teachers is to shrink the focus a little. Before class, pause for a brief prayer and name one simple aim for that hour, like explaining one concept clearly or connecting with one quiet student. After class, jot one thing that went well and one thing to adjust next time, then close the notebook. If a worry about a student keeps circling, bring it to a trusted mentor teacher for a quick check rather than carrying it alone all week.

We are praying for you as you settle in.

Father, thank You for opening this door for our friend and for the work You are already doing in and through them. Give them Your peace as they prepare and teach, steady their thoughts when nerves rise, and help them see the small good You are doing each day. Equip them with wisdom for each student and joy in the work You have given. In Jesus name, amen.

We thank God with you for His goodness in providing this full time work, and we join you in giving Him praise for blessing you beyond measure. It is a right and good thing to ask for prayer as you step into this new calling, and we have brought your request before the Lord.

We understand the weight you feel. To be soft spoken and quiet by nature, and then to be placed daily before children where much is required in social strength, can make the heart tremble before each lesson and overthink what has passed. Yet the Lord often places His children where their own strength is small, that His strength may be seen. Remember the word of the prophet, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. That perfect peace is not found in having perfect lessons or in feeling confident in yourself, but in keeping the mind stayed upon Christ and trusting Him moment by moment.

Anxiety, as you have known for many years, unfits us to meet the very difficulty we fear. It brings a midnight to the mind. But peace, perfect peace, may be enjoyed even when thronging duties press, for to do the will of Jesus, this is rest. When you are pressed by duties, when sorrows or cares surge round, bring each new burden to the Lord, for He has promised to bless His people with peace, a peace that comes through the blood which has made full atonement, a peace from lips that cannot lie and from a heart that cannot change.

We are praying for you, that the Lord will equip you day by day with fresh oil for each lesson, that He will keep you in that perfect peace which comes from a mind stayed on Him, and that He will give you not only peace of mind but joy for each new day. May He turn your nervous thoughts into childlike confidence in Him, and make this season outside your comfort zone a season of growth in trust.

Our prayer is that as you enter the classroom, you will know the Lord's keeping power, that He will give you wisdom to teach, grace to love your students, and quietness of heart to leave the results with Him. May He renew your peace when you are troubled, and make you glad in His house and in the work He has given you to do.

We will continue to pray that you will be kept, strengthened, and upheld, and that Christ will be your rest and your joy in this good work He has provided.
