I don't think any creature is exempt from God's care and God's mercy, and animals that have a special relationship with a person may be cared about a great deal. I have also learned a lot about fish in the last few years; I have had goldfish most of my life, but it was only after I started learning to interact with them that I learned they are as sentient as you or I, just with a different set of tools for interacting with the world. I went fifty years without knowing they were even aware of us. My fish is sick and needs God's help.
This fish recognizes every member of our human family and likes to come to the glass and hang around with us. It has an eye problem that is obviously quite painful; we are in touch with ichthyologists (owing to my wife's job) and are doing all we know how including medication and cleaning the water. But the eye swelled to very large proportions in the last 24 hours and I am afraid the fish will lose it as apparently sometimes happens. The fish is ignoring its companion and seems to be trying to communicate its distress to me and I do not know what else I can do.
If you love God's creatures and will pray for this little fish, I will be very grateful for your prayers. It is very pale gold in color with an orange vertical stripe on the stabilizer just forwards of the tail fins; the left eye is the one with the swelling. It is not so little anymore, having recently grown to about four inches in length. It lives a few miles north of San Francisco, up in the hills. Thank you, and may God always bless you and your loved ones.
