We join you in lifting up your family to God and His perfect will. Let us remember that God is faithful and keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations. Let us also remember that God promises that though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God for the throwing down of strongholds. As we cast down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, let us also be assured that we can completely overcome the wiles of the devil, casting off the works of darkness and putting on the armor of light. So let us be doing, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror and be convinced pleasingly that he is a good person while ignoring that he is naked and wretched and miserable and poor and blind, and end up going away, and immediately forget what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law, the law of freedom and makes a decision to do so, and continues therein, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does. If anyone among us thinks himself to be religious while he does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man's religion is worthless. Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
Although you mention Jesus in your prayer, let us also remember that we are to fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps burning and you yourselves like men looking for their lord, when he will return from the marriage feast; that, when he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately. Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he comes will find looking for him. Most certainly we tell you that he will dress himself, and make them recline, and will come and serve them. If he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not allowed his house to be broken through. Therefore be ready also, for the Son of Man is coming in an hour that you do not expect him.
Finally let us remember that we are to submit ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. And the Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you. Do not speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother, and judges his brother, speaks against the law, and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge. Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you who judge another?
We join you in praying for your family:
Heavenly Father, we come before you, lifting up this family, and praying for your protection and healing in every way. We ask that you increase our faith each day, deliver us from evil, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. We thank you, Lord, for your unfailing love and mercy. We trust you, and our heart trusts in you. We are helped, our heart greatly rejoices, and with my song will we praise you. Let your grace be upon us, Lord. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, and Lord. Amen.
Be comforted knowing that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man accomplishes much. Continue to trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.
