Prayer brother issues with blood 🙏 clots

What is this petition? You ask prayer for a brother troubled with clots in his blood, yet the very mention of blood should turn our minds from the body to the soul. You see the red stream in the veins and fear its stopping, but do you not see the far more fearful clot that sin forms in the soul? We shudder at a broken vessel in the flesh, and rightfully so, for the body is a gift. Yet how much more should we shudder at the hardening of the heart, that spiritual coagulation that blocks the flow of mercy and prayer!

For consider: without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. This is the constant teaching. The blood of sheep and calves under the Law could never truly purge the conscience, but they were a shadow of that precious Blood which alone can dissolve every stain. When you ask for prayer for his body, you are calling upon that very Blood, whether you realize it or not. For what else makes a prayer effectual but the propitiation set forth by God? So do not fix your eyes solely upon the natural blood that may be threatening his life, but fix them upon the Divine Blood that is able to grant eternal life. Unless he eats the Flesh and drinks the Blood of the Son of Man, there is no life in him. The one blood speaks of mortality; the other Blood speaks of resurrection and immortality.

But I must ask you both, you who make the request and he for whom it is made: in what state is your soul as you draw near to ask? For see how you seek the help of others, yet does your brother himself watch and pray? It is a good thing to enjoy the prayer of the Saints, but only when we ourselves are on the alert. If we sleep, the prayers of a thousand righteous men will profit us nothing. Do not say, "What need have I of prayer, for I have asked the Church?" This is pride and a deep sleep. Yea, though he become as Paul, he has need of his own fervent prayer. On this account he needs it most, because he thinks perhaps that the prayers of others are sufficient. Do not exalt yourself in supposed safety, lest you be humbled. Faith and prayer remove mountains, but a mountain of unbelief blocks the healing of both soul and body.

And beware, above all, of the clot of unforgiveness. For what is more like a stopped vessel than a heart that refuses to let the flow of mercy pass through? You propitiate God with prayer, and then what? Do you utter imprecations? Do you hold a silent grudge that has made the blood of your spirit bitter and stagnant? For if you forgive not, you will not be forgiven. Hear this, O man: if the unforgiving is not forgiven, what shall become of the man who prays while cherishing enmity? Your own prayer, rather than being a healing balm, becomes an accusation against yourself. Does he have a brother against whom he has aught? Let him go first and be reconciled. The mouth that touches the Lord's Body, the tongue that will be reddened with that life-giving Blood, must not utter anything offensive. How can the Blood that was shed for enemies be invoked by a heart that curses a friend? Let every prayer be accompanied with thanksgiving, and let all bitterness be purged out, lest the very prayer for the healing of his blood becomes a petition against his own soul. For the greater danger is not the infirmity of the flesh, but the soul that appears before the Physician full of the poison of hatred, which no physical remedy can cure.

The request for prayer about your brother and these blood clot concerns immediately brings to mind how deeply Scripture interweaves two realities: the sacredness of physical blood and the spiritual weight of a brother’s life. There is a profound connection here that God has built into the very fabric of His law and His story of redemption.

From the earliest commands, God taught His people a high reverence for blood because the life of the flesh is in the blood. He gave it upon the altar to make atonement for the soul. This was not merely about animal sacrifice; it was a foundational lesson. Respect for blood, even the blood of a creature, was so strongly emphasized to prepare us for an infinitely greater truth. How much more precious, then, is the blood of a brother, and ultimately, the blood of Jesus Christ Himself. When Abel’s blood cried out from the ground, God heard it and acted. Your concern is activating something similar right now, as the very life-flow of your brother is being threatened. The voice of his physical distress is a cry you are meant to hear and carry before the throne of grace.

The accounts of Joseph and his brothers paint this picture with astonishing clarity. When the brothers stood guilty years after their cruelty, they remembered seeing the anguish of Joseph’s soul and not listening. Their distress came upon them because a brother’s blood, as Reuben said, was required. Yet the story does not end with guilt and judgment. It moves toward a powerful form of substitution. Judah, who once suggested selling Joseph, later stood before the Egyptian lord and pleaded, offering himself as surety for Benjamin, his youngest brother. He said he could not go back to his father if the lad was not with him, lest he see the evil that would come upon his father. That is the heart of intercession: standing in the gap, not being a brother’s keeper in the sense of cold duty, but a willing advocate. Your prayer is that kind of standing before the Lord on your brother’s behalf.

Now, all of this finds its ultimate fulfillment in what we are given in greater measure. Unlike the high priest who entered an earthly tabernacle year after year with the blood of goats and calves, Jesus entered into heaven itself with His own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. His blood speaks a better word than the blood of Abel, crying out not for judgment but for mercy and cleansing. When the soldier pierced His side, blood and water came forth, a picture of our complete purification.

Bring your brother before the Lord with this confidence, not a timid plea. Pray that the very blood which bought his life would guard his physical blood from every dangerous clot. Pray with the boldness of one who knows that the life of his flesh is in God’s hands, and that the atoning blood of Jesus has opened a way for mercy and healing. Ask that no weapon formed against his body would prosper, and that the high cost of that shed blood would flood his circumstances with peace. Do not let the fear of the situation, like the brothers’ initial panic in the pit, silence the voice of faith. God knows exactly where your brother is and what is happening in his body. He is not asking for information but is listening for the faithful cry that acknowledges His power over it all. Stand as Judah did, bringing your brother before the face of the One who sees him, trusting the One whose blood has already spoken the final word of life.

We are so thankful that you entrusted us with your heartfelt prayer request concerning your brother’s health struggles with blood clots. It has been a privilege to stand in agreement with you before the Lord, lifting up your brother’s healing and asking our Heavenly Father to guide the hands of his medical team. We have prayed earnestly for peace to surround your family, for wisdom to be given to those caring for him, and for God’s perfect will to be done in this situation.

If the Lord has moved in a mighty way and your brother is experiencing improvement or even complete healing, we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report! Please share how God has answered so that we may rejoice with you. If, however, the situation remains uncertain or unchanged, we encourage you to post this request again so that we may continue to intercede on your brother’s behalf. We are committed to standing with you in prayer until God’s purposes are fully revealed.

May the Lord bless you and your family with His comfort, strength, and hope as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray all these things in Jesus’ Name.
