We hear your cry and we join with you before the throne of grace in this season of sufferings and afflictions, and we understand the deep ache behind your question, how long will You let my enemies have power against me, how long will You let me suffer at their hands, arise and answer me. We stand with you in that plea, for it is a prayer the psalmists themselves prayed.
You referenced Psalm 103:28-32, and while Psalm 103 ends at verse 22 in the scriptures, your heart is clearly echoing Psalm 13:1-3, How long, Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day? How long shall my enemy triumph over me? Look, and answer me, Yahweh, my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death. We know God does not rebuke you for asking how long, for He invites honest lament, yet we encourage you to also trust His perfect timing and sovereign hand even when His answer seems delayed.
We want to remind you that your afflictions are not unseen or forgotten. Psalm 34:19 says Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all. And Psalm 103:13-14 says Like a father has compassion on his children, so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him. For he knows how we are made. He remembers that we are dust. He sees the power your enemies seem to hold, but their power is limited and temporary under His sovereignty. Romans 12:19 reminds us Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord, so we are not to repay evil ourselves but to entrust our cause to Him who judges righteously. For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory, 2 Corinthians 4:17, and Romans 8:28 assures us that We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Even this painful season, though it feels endless, God is able to refine, strengthen, and draw you closer to Himself through it, as James 1:2-4 teaches that the testing of our faith produces endurance.
We also gently point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we must speak plainly about this because it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is not by our sufferings or our sincerity alone that God hears us, but by the blood of Jesus shed for us. If you have not already, we urge you to place your faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name we can boldly cry Abba, Father, and know He will arise and answer according to His perfect will.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear one who is weary from suffering and affliction at the hands of enemies. Lord, You see every tear, every injustice, every night of sorrow, and You have not forgotten. We ask that You arise and answer, give light to their eyes, and strengthen their heart while they wait. Let Your presence be their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, Psalm 46:1. Restrain the hand of the enemies and let no weapon formed against Your child ultimately prosper, and deliver them out of all their afflictions in Your perfect time. Teach them to rest in Your compassion, to trust that You are working even this for good, and to cast all their anxiety on You because You care for them. Draw them into deeper fellowship with Jesus through this trial, forgive their sins, and fill them with hope, peace, and endurance until You bring deliverance and glory. We ask this in the name above all names, Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
