The Sinner’s Advocate
Even as a sinner, you have Jesus as your Advocate who pleads for you before God.
Perfect Cleansing
God promises to fully cleanse your conscience and nature from all sin, bringing perfect peace and holiness.
Why Am I Thus?
Every believer struggles with sin yet finds hope in Christ’s power to overcome it.
We hear your cry and we join with you in this struggle, for we know you hate your sin and you want to flee from it and that godly sorrow is precious to God. It is written in 2 Corinthians 7:10 that godly sorrow works repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. The fact that you hate this cycle and you want purity and you are trying to pray even after falling shows that the Holy Spirit is working in you and drawing you toward holiness, and we do not condemn you but we stand with you.

We must speak plainly with love about what you are caught in, because pornography is sexual immorality. It is not a harmless habit, it is fornication of the heart and it defiles the mind and the body which is meant to be a temple of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. And we are commanded in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. In 2 Timothy 2:22 we are told to flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. God calls us to purity not to shame us but to set us free, because He wants to give you a clean heart as in Psalm 51:10 and to keep your body and mind holy for Him and, if it is His will, for a future marriage between a man and a woman as God designed.

We want to encourage you that there is a way of escape and forgiveness. It is written in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that no temptation has taken you except what is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. And in 1 John 1:9 if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Do not let shame keep you from praying. The enemy wants you to hide, but God wants you to run to Him immediately. We encourage you to make practical war against this sin, to remove access late at night, to put your devices away before sleep, to guard your eyes as Job made a covenant with his eyes in Job 31:1, to renew your mind daily in Romans 12:2, to walk by the Spirit so you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh as in Galatians 5:16, and to bring another faithful Christian brother into the light for accountability, for James 5:16 says confess your offenses to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we must lovingly tell you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, put your faith fully in Jesus Christ, believe that He died for your sins and rose again, confess Him as Lord, and you will be forgiven and receive the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome. It is not by your own strength but by His grace and His Spirit that you can walk in purity.

We pray together for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace for our brother who is weary and burdened by this cycle of impurity. Lord, we confess this sin before You and we ask for Your full forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Create in him a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him. Give him hatred for sin and hunger for righteousness. Teach him to flee sexual immorality and to make a way of escape when temptation comes, and to resist the devil so he will flee. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit so he may walk in self control and purity. Lord, we also pray for sleep, for You give sleep to Your beloved as in Psalm 127:2 and in Psalm 4:8 we can lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone make us dwell in safety. Quiet his anxious thoughts, calm his shame, grant him Your peace which passes all understanding as promised in Philippians 4:7, and let him rest in Your mercy tonight and wake renewed. Help him to fix his mind on whatever is pure and lovely, and to seek You first each day. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We will continue to pray for you, and we urge you to keep praying even when you fall, to open the Scriptures daily, to memorize verses like 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that your body is a temple, and to trust that God who began a good work in you will complete it. You are not alone and you are not beyond grace, keep turning to Jesus and He will give you victory and rest.

We are glad you reached out and asked for prayer. Wanting purity, hating the cycle you fell into, and wanting to flee shows where your heart is even when you feel tired and defeated. We hear how hard it is to try to pray and then feel pulled back in, and how much you long for real rest.

You are not alone in this struggle and you are not forgotten. God sees both your desire to do what is right and your weariness from lack of sleep.

One small step that helps many people in this kind of late night battle is to change the setting before the urge gets stronger. Keeping your phone out of the bedroom at night and having one trusted pastor or mature Christian friend you can text or call quickly can give you a way to step away, pray out loud, and not stay isolated with the temptation. If sleeplessness continues, please also consider talking with your doctor alongside prayer.

Father, we lift up our brother to You tonight. You see his hunger for purity and his sorrow over sin and his need for sleep. Wash him in Your forgiveness, give him strength to turn and flee when temptation comes, quiet his mind, and grant him peaceful rest. Remind him that You hear him, You are near, and You will keep walking with him. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your cry has been heard, and there is hope in this very thing, that you hate your sin and desire to flee from it. That hatred is not of the flesh, for the flesh loves its sin and makes excuse for it. To hate sin and to long for purity is a sign that the Spirit of God is at work in you.

Yet let us weigh this repentance with care. There is a carnal repentance which is of the flesh, which gives a kind of rest of conscience that lulls a man to sleep and enables him to wake and return to his sin as if nothing had happened. It is a repentance after a fashion, but not that holy, healthy, heavenly sort which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit. It weeps for a night and then embraces the evil again. True repentance, the repentance unto life, gives God glory. It does not rest in its own tears, but looks out of self to Christ, and to Christ only. It confesses that sin is committed against so holy, so good, so glorious a Being as the infinitely blessed God, and it flees to the finished work of Jesus for remission.

Remember that faith and repentance are inseparable. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant, and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart, go together. The repentance which purges the soul from dead works, and the faith that fills the soul with living works. One pulls down, the other builds up. What is your repentance? Let it be that which makes you weep and abhor your past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and that which makes you avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for you. Repentance and remission of sins are preached in His name, and they are joined together. Where there is true repentance, that godly sorrow which needs not to be repented of, there is full and free forgiveness through His blood. Repentance is the gift of God, and He will give it to those who seek it at the cross.

Do not think that repentance is a thing that happens at the commencement of the spiritual life and is then done with as an operation that is over. Repentance lives as long as faith. Sweet sister Repentance is charming company and should walk with us all the way to the gates of pearl. Therefore let yours be a practical repentance, with works meet for repentance, and let it last. It will be known by this, that it endures and that it seeks purity.

Purity and charity are the two great garments of Christianity, and purity must not be forgotten. Without holiness no man shall see the Lord. The text says to keep oneself unspotted from the world, which indicates separation. The pure in heart are distinct, and you are called to that separation now. To flee is not cowardice but wisdom. Make no provision for the flesh. Cut off the occasion, guard the eye, keep the door of your chamber as a holy place, and fill the soul with living works, with prayer, with the Word, with honest labour and communion with Christ, so that the evil tenant finds no room to return.

You ask also for sleep, and I hear the weariness in your prayer. There is a sleep which God gives to His beloved. It is not the heavy sleep of the sinner who sleeps while the sparks of damnation fly into his face, nor the carnal rest which hypocrisy gives. It is the sleep of contentment and the sleep of security which the Lord bestows upon His children, for so He giveth His beloved sleep. When the conscience is cleansed in the blood of Christ, the soul may lie down in peace. Yet let us not sleep as do others toward the things of God. Let us watch and pray, lest we enter into temptation.

I will pray for you, and I ask the Lord to hear us together.

O Lord God, create in this soul a clean heart and renew a right spirit within. Thou hast promised that if we confess our sins Thou art faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Grant true repentance which looks to Jesus only, and faith which receives Him as Lord and Saviour. Break the cycle of uncleanness, give power to flee from every snare, keep unspotted from the world, and fill the heart with love for Christ which makes sin bitter. Give also the sleep of Thy beloved, quietness of conscience, contentment in Thy mercy, and security under Thy wing, that body and soul may be refreshed for Thy service. Keep this one watching and praying, and restore unto him the joy of Thy salvation. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest cry has been heard, and I thank you for bringing this struggle into the light. To hate your sin and to want to flee from it is itself a sign of God's grace at work in you. That sorrow is not in vain. There is a sorrow that leads to death, and there is a godly sorrow that works repentance leading to salvation without regret. Your desire for purity shows that God is drawing you toward that good sorrow.

I am praying with you now for purity, for deliverance, and for rest.

Heavenly Father, I lift up this dear one to you through Jesus Christ alone, who is our only hope of salvation. You see the battle, you see the moment of wanting to pray and then falling, you see the weariness and the longing for sleep. Wash this heart clean. Grant true repentance, not only tears for a moment but a settled turning away from what harms the soul. Create a pure heart and a steadfast spirit. Teach how to watch and be sober, to guard the eyes and the mind, to flee from temptation rather than linger near it. Grant the strength to stand firm and unmoved, trusting that you who keep Israel neither slumber nor sleep will keep those who trust in you. And grant quiet, peaceful sleep tonight, a mind at rest in your mercy and forgiveness. In Jesus name, Amen.

Do not be discouraged that you fell again. The Christian life is not to sleep after a stain has come, but to rise at once and wash it away by repentance, by tears, by prayer, and by turning to mercy. God in his loving kindness has made a way for us to be cleansed, and the Church is like a spiritual bath where stains of the soul can be washed away. Repentance is not closed to you. What matters is not only weeping but truly turning, choosing day over night, wakefulness over the sleep of wickedness.

That sleep of the soul, that drunkenness that comes from carnal lust and other vices, makes a person see things as in a dream and not as they truly are. It promises pleasure but leaves emptiness and restlessness, and it even steals natural sleep. To be in the day depends on us, by God's help. It is in our power to watch, to be sober, to guard ourselves. This means making practical choices to flee. When temptation comes, turn away quickly, shut the door to it, call upon the name of Jesus immediately, get up, move, pray aloud, open Scripture, seek light and company rather than isolation.

For sleep, bring your anxiety to God before you lie down. Confess what has happened, receive his forgiveness, and ask for his peace to guard your heart and mind. A heart that is not stifled by excess, but is ordered and at peace with God, finds rest more easily. If sleep does not come at once, do not lie awake rehearsing failures or stirring up old desires. Instead pray quietly, recite a psalm, and entrust yourself to the One who watches over you through the night.

You are not alone in this fight. Keep bringing it to God, keep asking others to pray for you as you have now, and if possible share this burden with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can walk with you and help you stay accountable and steadfast. God is faithful, and he will give you a way of escape so that you can endure and grow in purity. Keep seeking him, keep rising after every fall, and trust that his mercy is greater than your sin.
