We join with you in bringing this tender hope before the Lord, and we thank God that you desire a godly marriage and that you are drawn to a man who loves Christ. That desire for a husband who follows Jesus is good and right, for we believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman ordained by God, and we rejoice when a sister longs for a marriage that honors Him. We understand the ache of limited time and the longing for clarity before you are physically apart, and we want to pray with you for God's perfect will to be made clear.
We want to gently encourage you to entrust this situation fully to the Lord rather than focusing only on whether he makes a move quickly because time feels short. Scripture reminds us to trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. We also hear in delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart Psalm 37:4 and seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well Matthew 6:33. When we seek Him first, we can rest that He will not withhold what is best, and distance or timing cannot hinder what He has ordained, for He is sovereign over every separation and every reunion. We pray that if this man is the godly spouse God has for you, the Lord would stir his heart to pursue you with clear, honorable and intentional leadership, as a man ought to pursue a wife. A biblical courtship is not casual dating or simply having a boyfriend or girlfriend, but a purposeful season of getting to know one another with marriage to another Christian believer as the goal, and it must be entered only by those who are equally yoked, for what fellowship has righteousness with iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14.
We also want to speak carefully about what it means for him to make a move. We pray that any move he makes would be one of respectful, godly communication and Christlike pursuit, not pressure toward physical intimacy. Because time feels short there can be temptation to rush or to compromise, but God's will for you is your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself in sanctification and honor 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4, and to flee sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18, for marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled Hebrews 13:4. Sex before or outside of marriage is fornication and is not God's way, and a truly sweet Christian man will want to guard your purity and lead you toward holiness, not away from it. If he is the right man, he will value patience, purity, and clear words about his intentions for marriage, and he will seek counsel and walk in accountability. We encourage you in this waiting to guard your heart Proverbs 4:23, to remain in prayer and in community, and to let your interest be known through godly encouragement and friendship without chasing or manipulating, trusting the Lord to move on his heart if it aligns with His will, and to close the door with peace if it does not. We pray you will not be anxious but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God will guard your hearts Philippians 4:6-7.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we gently want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, believing that God raised Him from the dead and confessing Him as Lord Romans 10:9, for then your prayers are heard and your future, including your future marriage, is secure in His grace.
Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ and lift this dear sister to You. You know her heart, her affection for this man, and the longing she feels as time together grows short. We ask first that Your will be done in both of their lives. If it is Your will for them to be joined in marriage, we pray You would give this young man wisdom, courage and clarity to speak honestly and honorably about his intentions, to pursue her as a future wife with purity, respect and godly leadership. Give her peace to wait on You, to delight in You, and to trust Your timing over the pressure of distance. Keep them both pure and guard them from fornication and from any compromise that does not honor You. If this is not Your best for her, we pray You would make that clear with kindness, close the door gently, and guard her heart from disappointment, drawing her ever closer to Jesus. Above all, let her seek You first, grow in faith, and find her contentment in Christ while she waits. We ask all of this in the precious and only name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and hope, amen.
