Pray My Husband Lets Me Go

Anonymous

Beloved of All
My husband has become a horrible, hateful man. He renounced God years ago and I’ve tried so hard to get him to come back but he gets worse as time goes. Please pray he lets me go.

We hear your deep pain and exhaustion, dear sister in Christ, and we lift you up before the Lord with heavy hearts. The weight of living with someone who has turned from God and grown hateful is a burden no one should have to bear alone. We stand with you in prayer, asking the Father to intervene in this marriage according to His perfect will.

First, we must rebuke the spirit of hardness that has taken root in your husband’s heart. Scripture warns us, "Beware, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God" (Hebrews 3:12). His rejection of God is not just a personal choice, it is a spiritual rebellion that has opened the door to bitterness and cruelty. We pray that the Holy Spirit would convict him deeply, breaking the chains of unbelief and drawing him back to repentance. Yet we also recognize that God honors free will, and if he continues to harden his heart, we trust the Lord to make a way for you.

You have fought faithfully to save this marriage, but there comes a time when we must surrender the outcome to God. We pray that if it is His will, your husband would release you with peace, whether through repentance and restoration or through a godly separation. "If possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men" (Romans 12:18). You cannot control his choices, but you can trust the Lord to be your defender and provider.

We also lift up your own heart before the Father. The weariness of loving someone who refuses to receive that love is a unique sorrow. We pray that God would heal your wounds, restore your hope, and surround you with His presence. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). You are not abandoned, even if your husband has turned away. Christ sees your tears, and He collects every one of them (Psalm 56:8).

If you are in physical or emotional danger, we urge you to seek godly counsel and protection. The Lord does not call you to endure abuse in the name of marriage. "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7). You are a daughter of the King, and your safety and well-being matter to Him.

Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts for this sister. We ask that You would soften her husband’s heart, either to repentance or to release her with kindness. If he will not turn back to You, then we pray for Your divine intervention to open a door for her to walk in freedom. Protect her heart, Lord, and fill the void with Your perfect peace. Give her wisdom to know when to stay and when to go, and surround her with Your people for support. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and through whom we have access to You. Amen.

You are not alone in this. Lean on the Lord, and let Him carry you through this valley. His grace is sufficient, and His love never fails.

We hear such exhaustion and grief in your words, and we want you to know we’re not looking away from it. Being bound to someone who has grown hateful and has turned from God creates a uniquely draining loneliness, and we’re sorry you’ve been carrying this for so long.

What we can offer right now is the steady reassurance that your pain is seen, and that you don’t have to figure out the path forward in isolation. Sometimes the bravest next step is simply letting a few wise, safe people walk into the situation with you. If you haven’t already, we’d encourage you to reach out to a pastor or a mature Christian counselor you trust, someone who can sit with you, hear the full story, and help you separate wise next steps from reactive ones. If you feel constrained physically or legally, a local domestic abuse hotline or a Christian legal clinic can often clarify what options actually exist, without pushing you into anything prematurely.

This isn’t about giving up; it’s about letting your own heart and mind find enough stability to recognize God’s quiet direction. You’ve tried hard to draw your husband back; you are not faithless because the weight has become too heavy. Our prayer for you is not for a quick escape, but for the kind of clarity that lets you move with peace, and for a covering of safety over your spirit and your days.

Let’s pray together:

Father, you see this daughter’s sorrow and the weariness she’s carried. Please guide her to people who will give her honest, compassionate counsel. Guard her, both outwardly and inwardly, and make the road ahead clear, whether that means a door opening, a heart softening, or a burden lifting. In the confusion, be her steadiness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The plea of your heart rises like a bitter cry in the night, and it is not unnoticed. You are in the crucible, and the fire is hot. This husband, once perhaps tender, has become hateful and has cast off the fear of God. You have striven to draw him back, but his heart has grown harder, and now you seek release. Yet let us pause and weigh this request in the balances of the sanctuary.

The covenant of marriage is not a light thing, to be dissolved because the path grows thorny. You are one flesh, and that bond was sealed before God. When an unbelieving spouse is content to dwell with a believing wife, she is not to depart. But if he departs, she is free, let him go. The difficulty here is that he does not depart; he clings to the shell of the marriage while his soul is far from God, and he makes your life bitter. You would flee, but he will not unbar the cage. This is a sore trial, and your spirit is bruised.

Consider, then, whether the Lord is bidding you, for a season, to let him alone. Ephraim was joined to idols, and at last the command came, “Let him alone.” When a soul has spurned every warning and grown worse under reproof, there comes a time when holy importunity must cease, and we must stand aside, leaving the rebel to his own ways. Yet this is not to abandon him in prayer, for God does not say to his ministering servants, “Let him alone,” when a man is sliding to the pit; He says it to those who would reprove and reform. Continue, therefore, to beseech the throne of grace for his conversion, even while you no longer cast your pearls before him. The Lord still works while we wait.

Your own path must be “outside the camp,” going forth unto Christ in the fellowship of his sufferings. You are yoked to one who despises your Savior, and this is a daily crucifixion. But take heart: the disciple is not above his Master. He was despised and rejected; you share a little of that sacred scorn. Go in peace, even as you go into the rough weather. The peace of God, which passes all understanding, can keep your heart in the midst of this domestic tempest. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, but forgive as you have been forgiven, and leave him to the Lord.

There may come an hour when flight is necessary, if your safety or your soul’s purity is in peril. God does not call us to remain under a roof where truth is daily trampled and your conscience is ground to powder. But this must be undertaken with great trembling and clear guidance, not hastiness. Let patience have her perfect work. The very trial may be the furnace in which your faith is refined. It is often in the dark valley that we learn to trust Him most entirely. The ships go not forth by their own might, but by the wind of heaven; so wait upon the Spirit to direct your course.

And remember, the day of final separation comes for all. It will be agony for the lost, and I cannot bid you lightly to say farewell to one with whom you have been one flesh. Fight yet upon your knees for his soul. The Lord who delivered not His own Son from the cross may not deliver you from this sorrow, but He will deliver you through it, and at last out of it. Take that word to yourself: “Go in peace.” Your heart is resting, O my God, though the waves roar. The Lord shall bless you in all that you do as you commit your way to Him.

I hear the distress in your words. You have suffered long, striving to draw your husband back to God, yet he only grows more hardened. This is a bitter trial. Marriage is a bond ordained of God, not to be severed by human impatience. Yet you ask for prayer that he lets you go, and I will pray, but first we must discern whether such a release comes from God or from our own weariness.

The Apostle has given us wisdom for such cases: if an unbelieving spouse departs, let him depart; a brother or sister is not under bondage in these circumstances. What does this mean? If he demands that you sacrifice your faith, that you join in his ungodliness as the price of staying together, then the marriage bond is already broken by his unbelief. In that case, it is better for the marriage to be dissolved than for any breach to be made in godliness. But if his hatred and refusal of God do not force you into sin, then your patience may yet be the means of his salvation. Consider Joseph: what he endured from his mistress was nothing compared to the torment her evil desire brought upon herself. So your suffering, if borne with holiness, may win him more than words ever could.

You have tried to bring him back; now your life must speak where words have failed. Holiness in marriage means you live with him in purity, avoiding any sin yourself, even as he rejects the Faith. Prayer and virtue are your weapons. If you separate, let it not be from anger or the desire for another life, but because his demands threaten your own soul. And if you do part, your leisure must then be fully devoted to God, serving Him without distraction, lest your freedom become a snare.

I will pray that God either turns his heart or, if his hardness persists, opens a door for you to depart in peace, without blame. Remember, the bond is holy, but God does not chain you to ungodliness. Stand firm in faith, and entrust yourself to Him who knows your sorrow.

Your heartache is not hidden from God, and the pain of living with a husband who has turned hard against the Lord and against you is a heavy burden. You have tried to win him back, yet he grows more bitter. It is right to bring this before the Lord in prayer, crying out for His help.

Scripture teaches that marriage is a covenant a man and woman enter before God, and what He joins together, we are not to tear apart lightly. The command to a believing wife is clear: if her husband, though an unbeliever, is content to live with her, she should not leave him. Your very presence in the home is a chance for the Spirit to work, for your quiet, respectful conduct may be used to soften his heart. You may never know whether you will be the means of saving him.

At the same time, God has not called you to endless chaos and cruelty. He is a God of peace. If your husband ultimately turns so fully against the marriage that he departs or divorces, you are not bound as a slave to that situation. Let him go if he insists on going. But while he still keeps you, the path of faith asks you first to endure with patience, not seeking to be the one who severs the tie.

It is not easy. When a man renounces the Lord and becomes hateful, the life you share can feel like Egypt a place of bitter bondage. In those times, remember the cry of the Israelites: God heard them, and in His time He made a way. He sees your tears. Keep praying, not only that your husband would let you go, but that he would let God take hold of his own heart again. For the real enemy is not flesh and blood but the spiritual darkness that has gripped him. Evil always cries, "Leave us alone!" when the light draws near. But Jesus did not avoid those dark places; He walked into them with the gospel.

Ask the Lord for strength to live out the two simple rules that make marriage work: for the husband to love as Christ loved the church, and for the wife to respect and submit as to the Lord. Even when your husband fails his part, your obedience is still your gift to God, and He will honor it. Sometimes the hardest battles are won not by pulling away but by staying put and watching the Lord fight for you.

Take hold of this truth: you are not alone. The One who calmed storms and cast out demons is the same who walks with you through the valley. Seek out mature, godly counsel in your church family for practical support and safety. I will be praying that God either thoroughly regenerates your husband’s heart and restores your home, or, if his rebellion deepens and he departs, that you will know the peace and liberty Christ gives. May the Lord give you wisdom, protection, and a deep sense of His presence as you wait on Him.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer these past days. It has been our heart to lift your burden before the Lord, asking Him to soften your husband’s heart and grant you the peace and freedom you seek. We have prayed earnestly that God would either draw your husband back to Himself or, in His perfect wisdom, open the door for you to move forward in safety and clarity.

If the Lord has answered this prayer in any way—whether through a change in your husband’s heart, a shift in your circumstances, or a deepening of your own trust in God—we would be so encouraged to hear a praise report. Your testimony could be a blessing to others walking a similar path.

If, however, the situation remains unchanged or feels even heavier, please do not hesitate to post this request again. We are here to continue interceding on your behalf, believing that God hears every cry of your heart. You are not alone in this, and we stand with you in faith, trusting that the Lord is at work even when we cannot see it.

May the Father surround you with His comfort, strengthen you with His grace, and guide you by His Spirit as you seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray all these things in Jesus’ Name.
