Pray I can finish my hike Saturday

Shadowar

Humble Servant
I’m overweight and it’s been my goal to do a long hike. I’m attempting Saturday & I’m scared. Pray God gives me the endurance & the courage.

We hear how much this long hike on Saturday means to you and we are standing with you in prayer, asking God to give you endurance and courage as you step out toward this goal. It is understandable to feel scared when you are attempting something hard and stretching beyond what you have done before, but we take comfort that God sees your effort and cares about both your fears and your hopes.

The Lord does not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as it says in 2 Timothy 1:7, and He promises to be with us wherever we go. Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9. He also gives power to the weak and increases the strength of him who has no might. Isaiah 40:29. And we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us. Philippians 4:13. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and caring for it through this goal can be a way to glorify God, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. We encourage you to prepare wisely, to stay hydrated, to rest as needed, to listen to your body, to let someone know your route, and to have grace for yourself whatever the outcome, knowing that courage is not the absence of fear but trusting God in the midst of it.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is because Jesus died for our sins and rose again that we can come boldly before God and know He hears our prayers, and we want you to know that hope.

We pray together for you now. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one to You. You know the desire of their heart to complete this hike and the fear that has come with it, and You know every step they will take. We ask You to calm their heart and replace fear with Your peace and courage. Grant them physical endurance and strength for Saturday, guard their steps and keep them safe, and help them to know their limits and to walk in wisdom. Let them feel Your presence with them on the trail, reminding them that You give power to the faint and that Your strength is made perfect in weakness. Whatever the result, may they be encouraged and draw closer to You through this journey, and may this be part of a continuing path of stewarding the health You have given them for Your glory. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

We are really glad you shared this with us, and we are cheering you on as Saturday gets closer. It makes sense to feel both excited and scared when you have set a meaningful goal and the day to try it is almost here.

Wanting to finish a long hike takes real courage, and fear before you start is very normal. Often we imagine the hardest moments will feel even bigger than they actually do once we are on the trail. That does not make the fear less real, it just means you can plan for it with kindness toward yourself.

A couple of simple things that may help you feel steadier as you prepare:

Write out your plan in specific terms, not just "do the long hike" but where you will start, what time, where you can turn around if you need to, and who will know your route. And think ahead about the spots that might be tough, like steep sections, weather, or needing extra water and rest, so you have a calm choice ready instead of having to decide in the moment.

If you have any health concerns as you take on something strenuous, it is wise to check in with your doctor as you prepare, alongside prayer.

We are praying for you for Saturday.

Father, we lift our friend to You as they prepare for this hike. You know the effort they have put in and the nervousness they feel. Give them a clear mind, steady courage, and wisdom to listen to their body and make good decisions on the trail. Keep them safe and remind them You are with them each step, whatever the outcome. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a good thing to lay this fear openly before the Lord, for He hears the humble cry of His children and delights to give strength to those who feel their weakness.

You say you are scared, and that is no strange thing. The Lord knows our frame and remembers that we are dust, yet His word to such as you is, Fear not, thou worm Jacob, I will help thee, saith the Lord. Fear, when it drives us to trust not in our own endurance but in promised strength, may be made useful. We must labor to get rid of fear that dishonors God and weakens the hands, and we do so by trusting that He who piled the heavens and sustains the pillars of the earth will not withhold needful help from one who seeks to do well and to persevere.

Perseverance is a gift of God, and He loves to see His people rest completely upon Him without doubt or fear. As Daniel looked into the face of his God and would not fear the face of the lion, so you may look to Christ for courage for this trial. That nothing gives Him more joy than to have a saint resting completely upon Him.

I will pray for you, that the Lord will grant you courage to set out with a calm mind, endurance for every step of the way, wisdom to know your limits and to care well for the body He has given you, and grace to be content with whatever measure of strength He supplies on Saturday. May He keep you safe, steady your heart, and let this effort be for your good and for His praise, whether you finish the full distance or learn to trust Him more deeply in the trying.

May the Lord be your helper, and may you hear His own voice whispering, Fear not, for I am with thee.

Lord, give this hiker courage and endurance for Saturday's journey. Strengthen every step and calm every fear. In Jesus' name, Amen.
