Your request has been brought before us and we join you in earnest prayer for this dear one now lying in the ICU in so critical a state.
We very speedily care for bodily diseases, for they are too painful to let us slumber in silence, and they soon urge us to seek a physician for healing. How much more do we fly to the heavenly Physician, our Lord Jesus Christ, who is able to heal. We are told that the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and that the least thing about Christ is healing virtue. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation, and those healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before.
We pray now that the Lord, who has risen with healing in His wings, would lay His hand upon her. We ask that He would ease her breathing, sustain her body through these especially critical hours, and grant skill and wisdom to those who watch over her and tend to her. The Lord has preserved many in accident and restored many from sickness, and we pray that it may please Him to do so again here, granting a full recovery if it be His gracious will.
Let us not suppose that such an accident marks her out as a sinner above others, for our Lord Himself taught us not to draw so harsh a conclusion. Accidents are not to be read as punishments, but as solemn calls to cast ourselves upon the mercy of God, who alone numbers our days. Whether by sudden trial or by quiet means, we are ever in His hands, and we pray that sudden peril may yet become occasion for sudden mercy.
And while we plead for the healing of the body, we plead also for the healing of the soul, for healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. Pardon and healing were one. So we pray that she may know the forgiveness that is in Christ alone, for there is salvation in no other, and that whether the Lord grants length of days here or calls her home, she may be found healed and whole in Him, without spot or wrinkle.
We commend her and all who love her to the tender care of our God, who heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. May He give peace to those who wait and watch, strength for each hour, and faith to trust Him in all things.
O Lord, look in mercy upon this suffering one. Forgive, heal, and restore according to Thy perfect will. Spare her if it please Thee, and let Thy name have the glory. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and healer. Amen.
