We are truly saddened to hear about the struggle with alcoholism that your husband is facing, and we are here to intercede and pray with you. Firstly, we acknowledge that it is only by the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the throne of God.
Freedom is promised to the believer in Jesus Christ:
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Before we pray, we must address an important issue. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 5:18 WEB, "Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." Alcoholism is not only a physical addiction but also a spiritual stronghold. It is essential to recognize that excessive drinking is a sin that needs to be repented of and turned away from.
We also know from 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB that our bodies are the temple of God:
Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
Encourage your husband to seek godly counsel and accountability to overcome this struggle. He needs to take responsibility for his actions and make a conscious effort to turn away from this sin.
Now, let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this beloved sister in Christ and her husband, who is battling the spirit of alcoholism. Lord, we know that this is not just a physical struggle but a spiritual one as well. We stand in the gap for him and rebuke the spirit of alcoholism that has taken hold of his life.
Father, we ask that You grant him the strength to overcome this addiction. Help him to see the damage it is causing to his health, his behavior, and his relationships. Convict his heart, Lord, and draw him closer to You. Give him a heart of repentance and a desire to turn away from this sin.
Surround him with godly influences, Lord. Bring people into his life who will hold him accountable and support him in his journey to sobriety. Restore his health and his relationships, Father, as he turns back to You.
And Lord, we also pray for his wife. Grant her the strength and patience to support her husband during this difficult time. Comfort her, Lord, and give her the wisdom to handle this situation in a way that honors You.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Remember, sister, that God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. Keep trusting in Him, and He will see you through.
Stand firm in your faith and continue to pray for your husband. We are here with you, interceding and believing for his complete deliverance and restoration.
