Now and Then
Our present dim understanding of God’s love will one day become clear and complete in His presence.
The Dramatic Element
God has placed a love of drama in us and calls us to use it wisely for good.
Wonders of the Hand
Every part of the body has purpose and value, so we must honor and use our gifts to serve others.
We join with you in prayer for wisdom and understanding in this important matter and we thank you for sharing your heart honestly with us.

We understand the fear you feel about telling this man that you are divorced, yet we want to gently encourage you that a relationship that is to honor God must be built on truth from the very beginning. Scripture calls us to put away falsehood and to speak truth with one another, for we are members of one another Ephesians 4:25, and to not lie to one another Colossians 3:9. Even withholding truth out of fear can become deception, and love rejoices not in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth 1 Corinthians 13:6. The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe Proverbs 29:25, and God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. If this man is to be considered as a potential godly spouse, he needs to know who you truly are, including your past, so that he can seek God's will with clear understanding.

We also want to speak biblically about divorce and about this new relationship. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman as God designed it, what therefore God has joined together, don't let man tear apart Matthew 19:6. The Lord tells us that He hates divorce Malachi 2:16 because of the pain and breaking of covenant it brings, yet He is also merciful and forgiving to those who confess and turn to Him, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. We do not know the circumstances of your divorce, but we encourage you to bring that whole story before the Lord, to seek counsel from mature believers or a pastor, and to be ready to share it humbly and honestly with this man. Wisdom for how and when to tell him comes from the Lord, for Yahweh gives wisdom, out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding Proverbs 2:6, and If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6.

We encourage you to view this time as courtship with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, rather than simply as a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship. We urge you to discern whether this wonderful man is a Christian believer, for we are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6:14, and to keep your courtship pure and honoring to God, for marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4, and to flee sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18. Pray together about whether God is leading you both toward holy marriage, and let honesty now lay a foundation for trust later.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is in His name we pray and find wisdom.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift this dear sister to You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We ask You to pour out Your wisdom and understanding upon her, to give her courage to speak the truth in love, and to give this man a heart of grace, discernment and understanding as he listens. Lord, remove fear and replace it with Your peace, guide her words with gentleness and honesty, and let Your will be done in this relationship. If it is Your will for them to continue toward marriage, build it on truth, purity and faith in You, and if not, give clear direction and comfort. Help her to walk in Your forgiveness and newness of life, and draw them both closer to Jesus. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We understand why this feels so heavy. Meeting someone wonderful can bring hope, and at the same time fear about sharing a painful part of your story is completely understandable. Wanting to be known honestly while also wanting to be received with kindness is a real tension.

We have found that sharing something personal like a divorce goes best when there is already a foundation of trust and respect, and when you have a calm, private moment to talk without rushing. It helps to keep it simple and clear, sharing the fact of your divorce without feeling you have to explain every detail at once, and giving him space to take it in and respond in his own time. It can help to write down beforehand what you most want him to know and to pray through it quietly so your words come from a settled place.

If you have a trusted pastor or mature friend who knows you well, talking it through with them first can also bring steadiness and perspective.

Father, we bring our sister to You in Jesus name. You know her story and the fear she carries about this conversation. Grant her wisdom and calm as she considers how and when to share, and give this man a listening and understanding heart. Above all guide her steps according to Your will and guard her with Your peace as she trusts You with what comes next. Amen.

Praying for you - simply be truthful. If he doesn’t show any understanding, then he isn’t so wonderful. There are reasons for divorce. If he isn’t understanding about you being divorced, then how is he going to be compassionate or understanding in a relationship ? He hasn’t been perfect while walking this earth, there shouldn’t be any judgement because of divorce.
Praying for you in the name of Jesus.

We have heard your request and we bring it before the Lord with you, asking that He will grant you wisdom and a calm heart to do what is right.

You speak of fear, and the Word of the Lord meets that fear with a command and a promise, Fear not, for I will help thee. The fear of man bringeth a snare, and such a snare that many feet have been tripped by it. Fear is weakening and it dishonors God, for it doubts the arm which piled the heavens and sustains all things. We must labor to get rid, as much as possible, of fear, not by our own resolve, but by trust in promised strength. When the Lord says Fear not, it is disobedience to remain afraid, for it is Jesus Himself who whispers to His poor servant, Fear not.

Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord and with walking in truth. Any relationship that would honor God must be built upon truth, not upon concealment. To withhold what is true about your past, even from fear of being rejected, is to walk in darkness and to be entangled in that snare of the fear of man. Love rejoices in the truth, and true understanding between two people cannot grow where truth is hidden.

Therefore we would counsel you, in the fear of God rather than the fear of man, to tell him plainly and early, with humility and without delay. Speak the truth in love, briefly and honestly, giving no more detail than is needful but hiding nothing that he ought to know. Do this not as one who seeks merely to secure his favor, but as one who seeks first to please God and to do His will, committing the outcome to Him who has promised to help you.

We also urge you to consider before the Lord what His Word teaches concerning marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and concerning purity, that living together and sexual intimacy belong only within that covenant. If this new acquaintance is to be considered at all, let it be with pastoral counsel, with prayer, and with a clear examination of what Scripture says about divorce and remarriage, and let all your conduct be chaste and above reproach. Seek above all that both of you, if you continue in friendship, would seek salvation through Jesus Christ alone, for without a new heart and the forgiveness which God alone gives, there is no true wisdom and no lasting hope. The Lord promises, A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you, and where He forgives He also puts His fear within the heart.

We pray for you in this way:

O Lord our God, Thou hast said Fear not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed for I am thy God. Look upon this Thy servant who is troubled with fear. Cast out that fear which hath torment and grant perfect love and trust in Thy promised help. Give wisdom from above, that she may speak the truth with grace and humility, and do what is right in Thy sight. Grant repentance where repentance is needed, and the full forgiveness that is in Christ Jesus alone. Put Thy fear within the heart, that she may not depart from Thee. If it be Thy will for any friendship to continue, let it be in holiness, in honesty, and in obedience to Thy Word, and if not, give grace to accept Thy wise and loving providence. Lead by Thy Spirit into all truth, and let Thy name be honored in all things. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to open this matter to a faithful pastor who knows you and can counsel you from Scripture, and to walk step by step in the light, trusting the Lord to help you as He has promised.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard your request for wisdom and understanding, and we join you in bringing it before the Lord.

Scripture teaches that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and that true wisdom is not from this world but from God. That wisdom is found in walking in truth and light, not in hiding or in deceit. Nothing makes a person more foolish than deceit, and nothing makes a person more wise than virtue, candor and a desire to please God. The Holy Spirit flees deceit and desires thoughts that are honest and understanding.

For that reason we encourage you not to delay in speaking the truth in love. A relationship that is to honor God must be built on honesty from the beginning. To withhold what is true about your past, even from fear, is to weave a deceit that will harm both you and this man, and it will not bring the peace you seek. Love and respect grow where there is truth, and where each person takes responsibility to do what is right before God, even when it is difficult.

We pray for you now.

Father in heaven, we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation, that you would grant wisdom that comes from above. Give our sister a spirit of truth and courage to speak plainly and humbly about her past, without delay and without deceit. Give this man understanding that is rooted in your wisdom, not only in human feeling. Help them both to seek your will above their own desires, to listen to your Word, and to seek godly counsel. Heal any wounds from the past marriage, bring repentance where needed and comfort where there is pain, and teach what your Word says about marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and about purity in keeping sex and living together within that covenant. Lead them to walk in virtue and in the fear of you, so that their decisions may honor you. Let your will be done in this situation, and give peace to those who walk in your truth. Amen.

We encourage you to speak with this man soon, clearly and kindly, and to also seek counsel from a trusted pastor who can walk with you through what Scripture teaches about divorce, healing, and any future relationship. Guard your heart and your actions to remain pure and honoring to God as you seek His direction.
