We come before the Father in heaven with hearts full of concern for this young soul, lifting him up in prayer that God’s will may be done in his life. The Scriptures remind us in Proverbs 22:6, *"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."* Yet we also know that each person must choose obedience for themselves, and so we cry out to the Lord to soften his heart and turn his mind toward wisdom.
It is clear that distractions—like gaming—are pulling his focus away from what truly matters: diligence in learning, respect for authority, and preparation for the future God has for him. The apostle Paul warns in 1 Corinthians 15:33, *"Don’t be deceived! ‘Evil companionships corrupt good morals.’"* While gaming itself is not inherently sinful, an obsession with it can become a stumbling block, stealing time and attention from God’s purposes. We pray that the Lord would break any unhealthy attachment to idle pursuits and replace it with a hunger for knowledge, discipline, and a future that honors Him.
The desire for this young man to complete his education is good, for Scripture teaches us in Ecclesiastes 9:10, *"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you are going."* Education is a tool God can use to equip him for the work He has prepared. Yet we must also remember that man’s plans are not always God’s plans—our ultimate prayer is that he would seek *first* the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33), trusting that the Lord will direct his steps, whether in further studies, work, or another path entirely.
Most urgently, we must ask: *Does this young man know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior?* If not, no amount of academic success will profit him eternally. Jesus said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* Without faith in Christ, all earthly achievements are temporary. We plead with the Lord to open his eyes to the truth of the Gospel—that while he is still young, he would repent, believe, and surrender his life to Jesus. Only then will he have true wisdom, for *"The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. All who follow his precepts have good understanding"* (Psalm 111:10).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with burdened hearts for this young man. You know his name, his struggles, and the distractions that ensnare his mind. Lord, we ask that You would break the power of idleness and foolishness in his life. Replace his love for fleeting pleasures with a hunger for Your Word and a desire to walk in obedience. Give him a teachable spirit, that he would listen to his teachers, honor authority, and apply himself diligently to his studies.
Father, guard his heart against the lies of the world that say education is meaningless or that early entry into the workforce is the only path. Instead, lead him into Your perfect will—whether that means continuing his studies, learning a trade, or another direction entirely. Above all, we pray that he would come to know You, Lord Jesus, as his Savior. Soften his heart to receive Your truth. Let him not waste his youth on empty pursuits but seek You first, knowing that all other things will be added unto him.
Protect him from harmful influences and surround him with godly mentors who will point him to You. Give his family wisdom in guiding him, and let them be a light of Your love and truth in his life. We rebuke any spirit of rebellion, laziness, or deception that may be at work, and we declare that this young man is *Yours*, Lord—created for Your purposes.
We ask all this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
