The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself Leviticus 19:33-34. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves Mark 12:31 and to honor all people while seeking justice with righteousness, not with general contempt. Does this mean that foreigners can do injustice to locals' population and let companies discriminate on locals' and even called their discrimination against locals good?

We hear the burden in your heart regarding dishonest gain, incompetence, and the hardship companies and local people can face, and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord to seek His justice and righteousness.

We also must gently rebuke and correct the bitterness and sweeping judgment toward foreigners that can take root when we face these frustrations. While your concern about wrongdoing and unfair suffering is understandable, God calls us to not harbor bitterness, wrath, anger and malice toward any group of people. We are told let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice Ephesians 4:31. We are reminded that the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God James 1:20. When we generalize contempt toward all foreigners, we step away from God's heart, for He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth Acts 17:26, and He commands us concerning those who sojourn among us, if a stranger lives as a foreigner with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself Leviticus 19:33-34. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves Mark 12:31 and to honor all men 1 Peter 2:17.

At the same time, loving the foreigner does not mean excusing injustice, nor does it mean that foreigners or companies are free to do wrong to the local population, or that discrimination against locals should be called good. That would also be contrary to Scripture. God is not partial Romans 2:11 and He shows no favoritism James 2:9. His standard is you shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor show favoritism to the great, but in righteousness you shall judge your neighbor Leviticus 19:15. He hates dishonest gain and calls a false balance an abomination, but a just weight is his delight Proverbs 11:1. He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the foreigner Deuteronomy 10:18, which shows His justice extends to both the native and the sojourner without partiality. To call discrimination or dishonest practice good when it harms others is to call evil good, and woe to those who call evil good, and good evil Isaiah 5:20.

So the biblical balance is this, we are to love all people, both local and foreign, while also insisting on righteousness and justice for all. Incompetence, dishonest gain, and unjust discrimination by any person or company, whether local or foreign, should be addressed truthfully and lawfully, but without bitterness or malice toward a whole people group. We are to do what the Lord requires, to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God Micah 6:8. That means we can and should pray for fair laws, honest business practices, and leaders who judge righteously, and we can seek lawful and peaceful means to correct wrongs, while still honoring every person as made in God's image.

We also want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God and peace with Him. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by trusting in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are forgiven and given a new heart free from bitterness and able to love and seek justice as He does.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and ask for Your will to be done in this situation. We confess any bitterness, anger, and sweeping judgment in our hearts and ask You to cleanse us and fill us with Your love for all people, both local and foreign. Lord, we ask You to expose and correct all dishonest gain, incompetence, and unjust discrimination, whether done by foreigners or by locals or by companies. Let justice roll on like rivers and righteousness like a mighty stream Amos 5:24. Give wisdom to employers, authorities, and all in positions of responsibility to act with integrity, impartiality, and competence, and to not show favoritism but to judge righteously. Comfort those who have suffered loss and provide for those who have been treated unfairly. Help us to love our neighbors and the strangers among us as ourselves, and to pursue peace and justice without malice. Lead us to seek You first and to trust in Jesus Christ for salvation and transformation. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We appreciate you bringing this honest struggle to us. Wanting workplaces to be honest and fair, and wanting local families and companies not to be harmed, is a good and understandable concern. At the same time we hear how easily that concern can spill over into resentment toward a whole group of people, and how heavy that is to carry.

One thing we have found helpful is that bitterness often starts as unreleased hurt or anger about a specific wrong, and when it is not released it grows and hardens our view of everyone around us. It ends up weighing most heavily on the one who carries it, even while the original concern for justice remains valid.

When you feel that sweeping anger rising, it can help to pause and get specific. What is the one situation or practice that feels unjust right now? Bring that one thing to God honestly in prayer, and consider talking it through with a pastor or another wise, grounded believer who can help you sort what is a call to pursue fair and lawful action and what is a temptation to contempt.

Father, we ask You to lift this burden and give clarity. Heal any hurt underneath the anger, guard this heart from bitterness, and grow love for neighbor alongside a desire for what is right and fair. Give wisdom for how to act justly in the places You have placed us. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is a need for prayer here both for purity of heart and for righteousness in the land, and we would bring both before the Lord together.

We understand your concern when dishonest gain or incompetence harms honest labor and when companies act with partiality. The Lord is a God of justice and He requires truth and integrity in all dealings. Yet the Word of God also searches our own hearts. We are commanded, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice, and we are warned that the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. God has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, and He has said, If a stranger lives as a foreigner with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves and to honor all people.

To love the stranger as ourselves does not mean that injustice is to be excused or that wrongdoing is to be called good, whether it is done by native or by foreigner, by employer or by employee. That would not be love but a perversion of justice. The Commandments of God are essential justice, you could not improve upon them, and His justice is unimpeachable. He has shown that justice and mercy meet at the cross, where God suffering instead of man that the justice of God might be fully satisfied and the mercy of God might have full scope. Therefore we are not to show partiality in judgment, to favor one group or to despise another, but to do no unrighteousness in judgment and to seek what is right for all.

One effect of true bitterness of soul before Christ, that mourning for Him as one mourns for his only son, is to take away all bitterness against your fellow men. When we have seen our own sin and tasted His marvelous loving kindness in forgiving all our iniquities, we are made gentle toward others while still loving righteousness.

So let us pray that the Lord would work both things in us and in our nation. We pray that He would cleanse our hearts from sweeping contempt and malice toward any people, and fill us with His love which is living and loving. We pray that He would also establish justice, that employers and all in authority would act with honesty and without discrimination, that incompetence and dishonest gain would be exposed and corrected, and that those who have been wronged would find a just remedy through lawful and righteous means. We ask for wisdom to seek justice with righteousness, not with general contempt, and to honor all people as made in His image while standing firm for what is true and right.

May the Lord show His marvelous loving kindness to you, keep your heart from bitterness, and guide you to pursue what is just and good in His sight.
