We hear the burden in your heart regarding dishonest gain, incompetence, and the hardship companies and local people can face, and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord to seek His justice and righteousness.

We also must gently rebuke and correct the bitterness and sweeping judgment toward foreigners that can take root when we face these frustrations. While your concern about wrongdoing and unfair suffering is understandable, God calls us to not harbor bitterness, wrath, anger and malice toward any group of people. We are told let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice Ephesians 4:31. We are reminded that the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God James 1:20. When we generalize contempt toward all foreigners, we step away from God's heart, for He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth Acts 17:26, and He commands us concerning those who sojourn among us, if a stranger lives as a foreigner with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself Leviticus 19:33-34. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves Mark 12:31 and to honor all men 1 Peter 2:17.

At the same time, loving the foreigner does not mean excusing injustice, nor does it mean that foreigners or companies are free to do wrong to the local population, or that discrimination against locals should be called good. That would also be contrary to Scripture. God is not partial Romans 2:11 and He shows no favoritism James 2:9. His standard is you shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor show favoritism to the great, but in righteousness you shall judge your neighbor Leviticus 19:15. He hates dishonest gain and calls a false balance an abomination, but a just weight is his delight Proverbs 11:1. He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the foreigner Deuteronomy 10:18, which shows His justice extends to both the native and the sojourner without partiality. To call discrimination or dishonest practice good when it harms others is to call evil good, and woe to those who call evil good, and good evil Isaiah 5:20.

So the biblical balance is this, we are to love all people, both local and foreign, while also insisting on righteousness and justice for all. Incompetence, dishonest gain, and unjust discrimination by any person or company, whether local or foreign, should be addressed truthfully and lawfully, but without bitterness or malice toward a whole people group. We are to do what the Lord requires, to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God Micah 6:8. That means we can and should pray for fair laws, honest business practices, and leaders who judge righteously, and we can seek lawful and peaceful means to correct wrongs, while still honoring every person as made in God's image.

We also want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God and peace with Him. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by trusting in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are forgiven and given a new heart free from bitterness and able to love and seek justice as He does.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and ask for Your will to be done in this situation. We confess any bitterness, anger, and sweeping judgment in our hearts and ask You to cleanse us and fill us with Your love for all people, both local and foreign. Lord, we ask You to expose and correct all dishonest gain, incompetence, and unjust discrimination, whether done by foreigners or by locals or by companies. Let justice roll on like rivers and righteousness like a mighty stream Amos 5:24. Give wisdom to employers, authorities, and all in positions of responsibility to act with integrity, impartiality, and competence, and to not show favoritism but to judge righteously. Comfort those who have suffered loss and provide for those who have been treated unfairly. Help us to love our neighbors and the strangers among us as ourselves, and to pursue peace and justice without malice. Lead us to seek You first and to trust in Jesus Christ for salvation and transformation. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We appreciate you bringing this honest struggle to us. Wanting workplaces to be honest and fair, and wanting local families and companies not to be harmed, is a good and understandable concern. At the same time we hear how easily that concern can spill over into resentment toward a whole group of people, and how heavy that is to carry.

One thing we have found helpful is that bitterness often starts as unreleased hurt or anger about a specific wrong, and when it is not released it grows and hardens our view of everyone around us. It ends up weighing most heavily on the one who carries it, even while the original concern for justice remains valid.

When you feel that sweeping anger rising, it can help to pause and get specific. What is the one situation or practice that feels unjust right now? Bring that one thing to God honestly in prayer, and consider talking it through with a pastor or another wise, grounded believer who can help you sort what is a call to pursue fair and lawful action and what is a temptation to contempt.

Father, we ask You to lift this burden and give clarity. Heal any hurt underneath the anger, guard this heart from bitterness, and grow love for neighbor alongside a desire for what is right and fair. Give wisdom for how to act justly in the places You have placed us. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is a need for prayer here both for purity of heart and for righteousness in the land, and we would bring both before the Lord together.

We understand your concern when dishonest gain or incompetence harms honest labor and when companies act with partiality. The Lord is a God of justice and He requires truth and integrity in all dealings. Yet the Word of God also searches our own hearts. We are commanded, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice, and we are warned that the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. God has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, and He has said, If a stranger lives as a foreigner with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves and to honor all people.

To love the stranger as ourselves does not mean that injustice is to be excused or that wrongdoing is to be called good, whether it is done by native or by foreigner, by employer or by employee. That would not be love but a perversion of justice. The Commandments of God are essential justice, you could not improve upon them, and His justice is unimpeachable. He has shown that justice and mercy meet at the cross, where God suffering instead of man that the justice of God might be fully satisfied and the mercy of God might have full scope. Therefore we are not to show partiality in judgment, to favor one group or to despise another, but to do no unrighteousness in judgment and to seek what is right for all.

One effect of true bitterness of soul before Christ, that mourning for Him as one mourns for his only son, is to take away all bitterness against your fellow men. When we have seen our own sin and tasted His marvelous loving kindness in forgiving all our iniquities, we are made gentle toward others while still loving righteousness.

So let us pray that the Lord would work both things in us and in our nation. We pray that He would cleanse our hearts from sweeping contempt and malice toward any people, and fill us with His love which is living and loving. We pray that He would also establish justice, that employers and all in authority would act with honesty and without discrimination, that incompetence and dishonest gain would be exposed and corrected, and that those who have been wronged would find a just remedy through lawful and righteous means. We ask for wisdom to seek justice with righteousness, not with general contempt, and to honor all people as made in His image while standing firm for what is true and right.

May the Lord show His marvelous loving kindness to you, keep your heart from bitterness, and guide you to pursue what is just and good in His sight.

We have heard your concern and we bring it before the Lord with you, asking for wisdom and a heart that reflects Christ in this matter.

Your burden about dishonest gain, incompetence, and harm done to companies and workers is understandable, and it is right to desire honesty and justice in the workplace. At the same time we must gently correct the bitterness and sweeping judgment toward foreigners that has entered into this request. Scripture is clear that we are to put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and slander, with all malice, Ephesians 4:31. Bitterness is not a small fault. As it has been taught, bitterness is a root, and a root of bitterness cannot bear sweet fruit. It produces wrath, and wrath produces anger, and anger produces clamor and reviling, and from there it goes on to greater harms. Even if the anger is kept silent within, it still burns the soul and defiles many around it. For this reason we are told to look diligently lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you and by it many be defiled. The anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God, James 1:20.

You ask, does this mean that foreigners can do injustice to the local population and that companies may discriminate against locals and even call that discrimination good. The answer is no. To love the foreigner does not mean to excuse injustice, dishonesty, or partiality from anyone. God forbids injustice in judgment for any person, whether native born or foreigner. He commands, you shall do no injustice in judgment, you shall not be partial, but in righteousness you shall judge your neighbor. Dishonest gain, favoritism, and discrimination are wrong whoever practices them, and it is right to pray and to seek that they be corrected through lawful and righteous means. What Scripture forbids is pursuing justice with general contempt, slander, and malice toward an entire group of people.

So we will pray that the Lord will work in both directions. We pray that He will grant you grace to put away all bitterness, wrath and malice, and to guard your tongue and heart from sweeping judgments, that you may not grieve the Holy Spirit but be kind and tenderhearted. We pray that He will give you discernment to seek justice without hatred, and love for neighbor without partiality. We pray also for workplaces and companies, that God would expose dishonest gain and incompetence, establish integrity and fair dealing, and cause employers to act with righteousness toward all workers, locals and foreigners alike. We pray for all who have come from other nations among you, and for your own community, that God would grant peace, honest labor, and mutual honor, and above all that each person would come to know salvation through Jesus Christ alone.

May the Lord cut out the root of bitterness in every heart and plant in its place love, justice, and the calm that belongs to those who follow Christ.

At the same time Scripture calls us to check our hearts when that concern turns into bitterness and sweeping judgment toward a whole group of people.

God commands us to put away all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking with all malice, because those things grieve His Spirit. The anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and He commands that when a stranger lives as a foreigner among us we shall not do him wrong, but the stranger shall be as the native born among us and we shall love him as ourselves. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves and to honor all people.

That does not mean God overlooks injustice or calls discrimination good. No, He does not. The Lord is the God who exercises loving kindness, and in the same breath He is the God of justice. In order for justice to be fulfilled the unjust must be judged, and it is His loving kindness toward the innocent and toward His own children that He brings the wicked into judgment. He sees when people deceive their neighbor, speak untruth, slander, take advantage, and seek dishonest gain, and a society broken down by such things grieves Him. Whether wrong is done by a local or by a foreigner, by an employer or an employee, God does not call it good. He will deal with the unrepentant sinner in justice, while He deals with His people according to His mercies and the multitude of His loving kindnesses.

There is an anger that is not sinful, an anger at sin and unrighteousness and evil itself. Jesus was angry when He saw the house of God desecrated and when narrow bigotry would keep a man from receiving healing. We can and should be angry at dishonesty, at incompetence that harms others, at any real discrimination or injustice. But we are not to let that become bigotry or general contempt for a people. We are to walk in a way that is fitting as children of God, not as those who do not know Him, seeking justice with righteousness and not with malice.

So bring your concern to the Lord without bitterness. Ask Him to expose and correct any real dishonest gain and any unfair discrimination, whoever is doing it, and to protect those who are being harmed. Ask Him to help you to act with integrity, to speak truth without slander, and to love your neighbor while still standing for what is right. Remember that His compassions do not fail, His mercies are new every morning, and great is His faithfulness even when we see desolation and disappointment around us.

Father, we pray for this situation and for every person affected by it. Forgive us where we have harbored bitterness, wrath, or malice, and cleanse our hearts. Give wisdom to employers and workers to act honestly and fairly, correct what is dishonest and unjust, and help us to love as You love while hating what is evil. Let Your loving kindness and Your justice be seen, and let Your will be done. In Jesus name, amen.
