We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up the leaders of this nation in prayer. Father God, we know that all authority is established by You, and those in power are accountable to You first and foremost. The scriptures tell us in Proverbs 29:2, "When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan." Lord, we groan under the weight of greed and injustice that seems to have taken root in the hearts of those who govern.
We rebuke the spirit of greed that has blinded these ministers to their true calling—to serve the people with integrity, justice, and compassion. Your Word warns in 1 Timothy 6:10, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows." Lord, we pray that You would expose the darkness of their hearts and bring conviction where there is hardness. Let them see the suffering of the people they are called to serve, not exploit.
We also lift up the citizens of this nation, who are bearing the burden of these unjust policies. Father, You see their struggle—the rising cost of food, the lack of employment, and the weight of taxation that seems to only benefit the wealthy. We ask that You provide for their needs according to Your riches in glory, as You promise in Philippians 4:19. Give them wisdom to navigate these difficult times and strength to trust in You rather than in the systems of this world.
Lord, we pray for repentance among these leaders. May they turn from their greed and seek Your face, remembering that their power is a stewardship from You. Let them heed the warning of James 5:1-3, "Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you. Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you, and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days." Let them see that their hoarded wealth will not save them, but only Your mercy and grace.
We also pray for divine intervention in the policies being enacted. Father, raise up righteous voices in government who will stand for justice and speak for the oppressed. Let Your Word guide their decisions, as it says in Proverbs 16:12, "It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness, for the throne is established by righteousness." May Your justice prevail, and may the people see Your hand at work in their land.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would soften the hearts of these leaders to the plight of their people. Let them remember that they are servants, not masters, and that their true reward is not in earthly wealth but in hearing You say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." We pray that they would seek Your kingdom first, and in doing so, find the wisdom and compassion to govern with integrity.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, we pray. Amen.
