Pray for this

Faithful Servant
Then why Jesus doesn't answer prayers is not seen as a bad tree and what is he trying to say when he is the vine and he only bears good fruit and is a good tree.

We come before the Lord with this question, seeking His wisdom and understanding. It is a profound inquiry that touches on the nature of prayer, faith, and the character of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Let us turn to Scripture to illuminate these truths.

First, we must address the foundation of our faith and prayer. Jesus Himself tells us in John 14:13-14, "Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it." This promise is clear—when we pray in Jesus' name, aligning our will with His, He hears and answers. However, we must also consider James 4:3, which says, "You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures." Prayer is not a transaction where we demand our desires; it is a relationship where we seek God’s will above our own.

When Jesus speaks of the vine and the branches in John 15:1-5, He says, "I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." Here, Jesus is teaching that abiding in Him—remaining in His love, His Word, and His will—produces good fruit. A "bad tree" does not bear good fruit because it is not connected to the life-giving vine. If we are not seeing answers to prayer, it may be because we are not abiding in Christ as we should. Are we truly seeking His will, or are we clinging to our own desires? Are we bearing the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)—or are we allowing sin to hinder our connection to Him?

Jesus also warns in Matthew 7:15-20 about false prophets who appear as sheep but are wolves in disguise. He says, "By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree produces good fruit; but the corrupt tree produces evil fruit. A good tree can’t produce evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree produce good fruit." Here, Jesus is not saying that He, the perfect and holy Son of God, could ever be a "bad tree." Rather, He is contrasting those who are truly His followers—who bear good fruit—with those who claim to follow Him but do not. If our lives do not reflect the fruit of the Spirit, if we are not walking in obedience to His Word, then we cannot expect to see the fullness of His promises in our prayers.

Let us also remember that God’s answers to prayer are not always what we expect. Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," says Yahweh. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." Sometimes, God’s "no" or "wait" is an answer of love, protecting us from what we cannot see or preparing us for something greater. His silence is not absence; it is an invitation to trust Him more deeply.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your truth and wisdom. Lord, we confess that at times we struggle to understand why our prayers seem unanswered. Forgive us for the times we have prayed with selfish motives or have not fully surrendered to Your will. Help us to abide in You, Jesus, as the true vine, so that we may bear good fruit in every season of our lives. Teach us to trust You even when we do not see the answers we desire, knowing that Your ways are higher than ours and Your timing is perfect.

Lord, we ask that You would align our hearts with Yours. Show us where we may be hindering our connection to You—whether through unconfessed sin, doubt, or a lack of faith. Prune away anything in our lives that does not bear fruit for Your kingdom, and strengthen us to walk in obedience to Your Word. Help us to remember that prayer is not about demanding our will but about seeking Yours, knowing that You work all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

Father, we also pray for those who may be struggling with doubt or frustration in their prayer lives. Remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who have a contrite spirit (Psalm 34:18). Give them the faith to trust You even in the silence, knowing that You are always working, even when we cannot see it. May they find peace in Your presence and joy in Your promises.

We thank You, Lord, that You are a good and faithful God, who hears the cries of Your children. We trust in Your perfect love and sovereignty, knowing that You will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). May our lives reflect the fruit of the Spirit, and may our prayers be a sweet fragrance to You, offered in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

To the one who asked this question, we encourage you to press into God’s Word and His presence. Spend time in prayer, not just asking for what you want, but listening for His voice. Examine your heart—are you truly abiding in Christ, or are there areas where you have strayed from His will? Remember, God is not a bad tree; He is the source of all good fruit. If you are not seeing the answers you desire, ask Him to reveal what may be hindering your prayers. Trust that He is working, even in the waiting, and that His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Confess your sins, believe in your heart that Jesus died for you and rose again, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. Only then can you truly abide in Him and bear the fruit that comes from a life transformed by His love.

We've been thinking about your question, friend, and it's got us reflecting on our own walk with Jesus. It's like a garden, isn't it? We're the plants, and Jesus is the Gardener. Sometimes, we might look around and see other plants bearing fruit, and we wonder why we're not. But remember, Jesus said, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)

It's not about us being a bad tree or Jesus being a bad Gardener. It's about our connection to Him. Are we abiding in Him, spending time in His Word, and seeking His will? Or are we trying to do things in our own strength, like a branch trying to bear fruit all on its own?

Also, let's not forget that God's timing is perfect. Sometimes, He says "wait" or "no" because He loves us too much to let us go down a path that's not good for us. It's like when we were kids and we wanted something, but our parents knew it wasn't right for us. They didn't give it to us because they loved us.

So, let's keep abiding in Jesus, seeking His will, and trusting Him even when we don't see the answers we want. Let's ask Him to reveal any areas in our lives that might be hindering our connection to Him. And let's remember that prayer is a relationship, not a transaction. It's about seeking His will, not just our own.

We're praying for you, friend. That you'd find peace in Jesus, even in the waiting. That you'd trust Him, even when you can't see what He's doing. And that you'd bear much fruit, because you're connected to the true Vine. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
