Faithful Servant
Singapore’s population has hit a new high of 6.11 million, the growth is driven mainly by foreigners. In 2024 alone:
- 35,264 new Permanent Residents (PRs) were granted — a 15-year high, second only to 2009’s 59,460.
- 22,766 new citizens were granted — the highest ever recorded.
- This record excludes children born overseas to Singaporean parents. An additional 1,409 children were granted citizenship by descent.

From 2005 to 2024:
- 774,781 PRs were granted.
- 417,618 new citizens were granted from 2000 to 2024.

In just the last 4 years (2021–2024), 139,248 PRs were granted.

Breakdown of Singapore’s current population:
- Foreigners: 31.3%
- PRs: 8.8%
- Total non-Singaporeans: 40.1%
- Singaporeans (including new citizens): 59.9%

When we factor in naturalised citizens, an estimated 46% of the population may be non-native Singaporeans — born overseas and granted PR or citizenship. This isn’t just a demographic shift. It’s a structural transformation of Singapore’s social fabric. Who is Singapore for? What does citizenship mean today? And how do we ensure dignity, equity, and belonging for all — native and newcomer alike?

We lift up the nation of ### before the Lord, acknowledging the profound demographic changes taking place and the questions they raise about identity, belonging, and the future of this land. The rapid influx of foreigners, new permanent residents, and citizens is reshaping the social fabric, and we recognize that such shifts can bring both opportunities and challenges. The Bible reminds us in **Jeremiah 29:7**, *"Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace."* Though this verse was written to Israel in exile, it reflects a principle for all who dwell in a land: we are called to seek its welfare, to pray for its leaders, and to live in a way that honors God, whether native or sojourner.

Yet we must also consider the deeper implications of these changes. A nation’s identity is not merely a matter of numbers but of shared values, culture, and heritage. **Deuteronomy 32:8-9** speaks of God establishing boundaries for the nations according to the number of the children of Israel, emphasizing that nations have a divinely ordained purpose and character. When a nation’s demographic composition shifts so dramatically, it is right to ask: *Who does this land belong to?* Not in a spirit of exclusion, but in a recognition that stewardship matters. A nation must preserve what is good, just, and true, ensuring that its laws, traditions, and moral foundations are not eroded by unchecked change.

We pray for wisdom for ###’s leaders, that they would govern with discernment and fairness, balancing the need for economic growth with the preservation of the nation’s soul. **Proverbs 11:14** tells us, *"Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."* May those in authority seek God’s wisdom above all, ensuring that policies reflect justice, mercy, and a commitment to the common good—both for native ### and those who come as strangers.

For the newcomers—those granted PR status or citizenship—we pray they would integrate with humility and respect for the land they now call home. **Leviticus 19:34** commands, *"The foreigner who lives among you must be treated as native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am Yahweh your God."* This is a call to both the native and the sojourner: the native must show kindness, and the sojourner must honor the land and its people. May all who dwell in ###, whether by birth or by choice, contribute to its flourishing in righteousness.

We also pray for the Church in ###, that it would be a beacon of truth and unity in this time of transition. The body of Christ is called to transcend ethnic and national divisions, for in Christ, *"there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus"* (**Galatians 3:28**). Yet this unity does not erase distinctions; it redeems them. May believers model what it means to love one’s neighbor while upholding biblical values, ensuring that the Church remains a salt and light in a changing society.

Finally, we rebuke any spirit of fear, division, or resentment that may arise from these demographic shifts. **2 Timothy 1:7** reminds us that *"God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control."* Instead of anxiety, let there be prayerful action; instead of division, let there be wise stewardship; instead of resentment, let there be a commitment to justice and mercy. May ###’s future be built on the foundation of **Psalm 33:12**: *"Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance."*

Heavenly Father, we ask for Your hand to guide ### in this season of change. Grant its leaders wisdom to govern justly, its people grace to live harmoniously, and its churches courage to stand for Your truth. Let this nation be a place where dignity, equity, and belonging are not just ideals but realities—rooted in Your righteousness. May ###’s identity be shaped not merely by demographics but by a commitment to what is honorable, true, and pleasing to You. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We're here, standing with you in prayer for ###. The rapid growth in population, driven largely by foreigners, brings both opportunities and challenges. We're reminded of Psalm 147:3, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Let's pray for unity, understanding, and healing as ### navigates these changes.

We lift up the government, that they would govern with wisdom and fairness, balancing the need for economic growth with the preservation of ###'s unique identity and values. We pray for the integration of new residents, that they would embrace their new home with humility and respect, and that long-time residents would welcome them with open hearts.

Let's also pray for the Church in ###, that it would be a beacon of love, hope, and unity in this time of transition. We pray that believers would model what it means to love their neighbors, upholding biblical values while embracing diversity.

Lastly, we rebuke any spirit of fear, division, or resentment, and instead ask for a spirit of love, power, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). We pray that ###'s future would be built on the foundation of Psalm 33:12, "Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance."

Heavenly Father, we ask for Your hand to guide ### in this season of change. Grant its leaders wisdom, its people grace, and its churches courage. May ### be a place where dignity, equity, and belonging are realities rooted in Your righteousness. We ask this in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
