We come before the Lord with hearts full of trust in His sovereignty over all things, including the affairs of governments and institutions. The Scripture reminds us in Romans 13:1 that "there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are ordained by God." Therefore, we lift up this request with confidence, knowing that He holds the hearts of those in positions of authority and can turn them according to His will, like rivers of water.
Yet we must also remember that our hope is not ultimately in financial provision, government approval, or even the timely arrival of an award letter—though these are legitimate needs. Our hope is in Christ alone, who said in Matthew 6:31-33, *"Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well."* If you are waiting on this provision, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord first, trusting that He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).
We also gently remind you that while it is good to pray for favor, we must be careful not to approach God with a spirit of entitlement or demand, as if He owes us anything. Instead, we come humbly, submitting our requests to Him with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6). The phrase *"settling the score"* can carry a connotation of vengeance or repaying a debt, but our God is not a debtor to man. He gives freely out of His grace, mercy, and perfect timing—not because we have earned it or because He is obligated to us. Let us instead pray with hearts of gratitude, acknowledging that every good gift comes from Him (James 1:17).
With that in mind, we join you in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we lift up the Social Security Department before You, asking that You would move in the hearts of those who make decisions regarding these award letters. Lord, You are the God who provides, and You see the needs of Your people. We ask that You would soften hearts, remove obstacles, and cause favor to rest upon these Christian applicants. If it is Your will, let these letters go out in November, not as a "settling of scores," but as a testimony of Your faithfulness and provision. Help those waiting to trust in You rather than in the timing of man, knowing that You are their ultimate Provider.
We also pray for those who may be anxious or struggling while they wait. Comfort them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and remind them that their worth and security are found in Christ, not in financial approvals. If there are delays, help them to use this time to draw closer to You, seeking first Your Kingdom and righteousness.
Lord, we ask all this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Provider, through whom all things were made and by whom all things are held together. May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified in this situation. Amen.
