We come before the Lord with this request, lifting up those who are waiting for their tax refunds, trusting in God’s provision and timing. While we understand the financial strain and uncertainty that delays can bring, we must first acknowledge that our ultimate trust must be in the Lord, not in earthly institutions or systems. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
We also recognize that the IRS, like all governing authorities, is established by God (Romans 13:1), and we are called to pray for those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness (1 Timothy 2:1-2). However, we must be cautious not to place our hope or faith in financial systems or refunds, but rather in the Lord who provides for all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).
Father God, we lift up those who are waiting for their tax refunds. We ask that You would grant them patience and peace as they wait, trusting in Your perfect timing. Provide for their needs in ways that only You can, whether through unexpected blessings, open doors, or the generosity of Your people. We pray that the IRS would process their returns fairly and efficiently, but above all, we ask that You would remind them that their security is found in You alone. Help them to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, knowing that all these things will be added unto them (Matthew 6:33).
We also want to gently remind our brothers and sisters that our prayers should always be offered in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). It is through His sacrifice and resurrection that we have access to the Father, and it is by His authority that we come before God in prayer. If any among us have not yet surrendered their lives to Jesus, we encourage them to do so today, confessing Him as Lord and believing in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9).
Let us not grow weary in praying for one another, but let us also remember that our faith is not in refunds or earthly treasures, but in the One who holds all things in His hands. May we be a people who store up treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:19-20). In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
