We come before the Lord with a heavy heart, lifting up your husband and this urgent need for deliverance from the grip of smoking. Father God, we know that Your Word declares in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." Smoking defiles the temple You have given him, and we ask for Your mighty hand to break this addiction in his life.
Lord, we rebuke the spirit of selfishness that blinds him to the harm he is causing not only to himself but to his family who loves him. Proverbs 14:12 warns, "There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." We pray that You would open his eyes to the truth of this path he is on and grant him the strength to turn away from it. His surgery last year was a wake-up call, yet he has not fully surrendered this habit to You. We ask that You would convict his heart deeply, especially when he is around those who influence him negatively.
Father, we also lift up his priorities. You have called him to love his wife as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25), and to be present and attentive to his family. Social media and other distractions are pulling him away from what truly matters. We pray that You would realign his heart to seek You first, then his wife, children, and home. Help him to see the value of his family and the responsibility You have entrusted to him as a husband and father.
We stand in agreement with Your Word in James 4:7, "Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." We declare that every chain of addiction, every lie that tells him he cannot quit, and every influence that draws him away from You be broken in the mighty name of Jesus. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, so that he may walk in self-control, one of the fruits of Your Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
We pray for healing in his body from the damage that has already been done. You are the Great Physician, and we trust in Your power to restore him fully. Psalm 103:2-3 reminds us, "Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases." We claim this promise over his life today.
Father, we also ask that You would strengthen and encourage this dear wife who is standing in the gap for her husband. Give her wisdom, patience, and grace as she continues to pray and intercede for him. Surround her with godly support and remind her that her labor in prayer is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).
We declare that this battle is not his alone, nor is it his wife’s alone, it is the Lord’s. We trust in Your power to set him free completely and forever. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
