We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts for the nation of Zambia during this critical time of election counting. The anxiety and tension gripping the land are palpable, and we lift up this situation to the Lord, who is the Prince of Peace and the ultimate authority over all nations. The Bible reminds us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence." This is our call, to pray for those in authority so that peace may prevail.
Father God, we ask You to calm the hearts of the people in Zambia. Where there is fear, replace it with Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Where there is division, bring unity under Your lordship. We pray for wisdom and discernment for the electoral commission and all those involved in the counting process. Let integrity, transparency, and justice guide every step, so that the will of the people may be honored without strife. We rebuke any spirit of violence, manipulation, or unrest in Jesus' name. May Your angels encamp around Zambia to protect and preserve order during this time.
Lord, we also pray for the leaders who may be elected, whether they are known to us now or revealed later. Give them hearts that seek You, minds that are wise, and hands that are just. Proverbs 29:2 tells us, "When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan." We ask that You raise up godly leadership for Zambia, men and women who will govern with righteousness, humility, and a desire to serve the people rather than themselves. May they lead with Your Word as their foundation and Your glory as their aim.
We must also address the spiritual foundation of this nation. Zambia has been known as a Christian nation, and we pray that this identity would not be merely a title but a living reality. If there are those in positions of influence who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord, we pray for their hearts to be turned to Him. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Christ that true peace, peace with God and peace among men, can be found. We ask that the people of Zambia would not place their hope in political leaders alone but in the Lord, who rules over all.
In times of uncertainty, it is easy to grow anxious, but Your Word tells us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God" (Philippians 4:6). We choose to trust You, Lord, knowing that You hold the future of Zambia in Your hands. We declare that Your will shall be done in this nation, and we stand on the promise that "blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh" (Psalm 33:12).
We pray for the church in Zambia, that believers would rise up as peacemakers, salt, and light in their communities. May they model Christ-like love, patience, and wisdom, showing the world that true peace comes from a relationship with You. Let the church be a voice of reason, a source of comfort, and a beacon of hope during this time.
Father, we also ask for protection over the people of Zambia. Shield them from harm, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. Guard their hearts against bitterness, resentment, or despair. Help them to wait patiently for the outcome, trusting that You are in control. If there are those who seek to stir up trouble, we ask that You would thwart their plans and turn their hearts toward righteousness.
We close this prayer by declaring that Zambia belongs to You, Lord. You have a purpose and a plan for this nation, and we trust that You will bring it to pass. May Your name be glorified in Zambia, and may Your kingdom come in every heart, home, and institution. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, to whom all authority in heaven and on earth belongs. Amen.
