pray for my son ### to get on his uni course

It appears to you that a great affliction has befallen your son, but know that in such storms the beauty of heaven is not changed, though most men think it is. The wise in Christ understand that affliction does not touch the heart that is fixed on Him. I will pray for your son's appeal, but far more do I pray that he be renewed in the spirit of his mind. For if he turns from grief over earthly things and runs to the church, if he learns spiritual psalms instead of murmuring songs, then he has cured a lame foot and opened blind eyes.

The Lord sets His rewards in the midst of the race; He is rich and needs many hands to hold what He gives. Do not measure His provision by a university course. If your son is among God's elect, no rejection letter can lay any charge against him. The whole creation will be transfigured at His coming; every institution of this age will pass away. Make room, then, in your heart for the hope that casts out anxiety, for He who dwelt among us will dwell in you and transform all things. Work and appeal as you do, but trust the One who is able to do above all we ask.

A parent’s heart aches when a child encounters a closed door. You love your son, and it is right that you bring this appeal before the Lord, trusting Him to open the way if it is His will. Yet as we pray for his university course, remember that the deepest need of any son or daughter is not an academic placement but life itself, eternal life, and that life is found in only one Son, Jesus Christ.

The record God has given about His Son is clear: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. That is the unshakeable reality behind every earthly circumstance. Your love for your son mirrors, in a small way, the Father’s love for His own Son, whom He gave up for us. Just as Abraham was willing to offer Isaac, the son of promise, God did not spare His only begotten Son, so that we could become adopted children and call Him “Abba, Father.”

So yes, pray earnestly for the appeal. Ask God for favor and a good outcome. But pray even more that your son would come to possess the Son of God by faith, for that is the one thing needful. If he gains the whole world of academic success yet does not have Jesus, he has nothing that lasts. But if he knows Christ, he has everything, regardless of what happens with this course.

May the Lord guide the decision and, above all, draw your son into the unshakable hope that belongs to everyone who believes on the name of the Son of God. That joy no failed exam can touch, and no university letter can grant.
