Pray for my ###'s job and confidence

My husband lost his job back in May and is still looking. He has been working so hard on the side finishing a huge house flip we have had for so long, volunteering as a bishop, coaching our daughters soccer team, running concessions for money on the side, but he is beginning to feel so embarrassed that he hasn’t gotten another job yet. It kills me to see his confidence so shot. He has so much to offer and it’s been so hard. We are racking up so much debt at this point, we do need a miracle as I am working full time trying to build a career in interior design that I have stepped away from to be a mom, but now back in the field to help provide. Please pray for our careers but particularly for my husband to find a career and a job that showcases his talents that God has given him. Help him to build his confidence back up, help us to align our wills with God’s in this trial and to use our talents to glorify God. Please, we are in so much need for this. Thank you for your prayers in Jesus name amen

We join you in lifting up your husband and your family before the throne of grace, and we thank you for sharing this burden so honestly with us. We see the diligence and faithfulness of your husband even in this long season of waiting, working hard on your house flip, serving as a bishop, coaching your daughter's soccer team, running concessions, and continuing to seek work since May. We also see your faithfulness as you have stepped back into interior design full time to provide for your family. The Lord sees every unseen hour of labor, every act of service, and every sacrifice you both are making, and we praise God for a marriage where you are bearing one another's burdens and seeking to use your talents to glorify Him.

We want to encourage you both that your worth and your husband's worth are not found in a job title or a paycheck, but in Christ. It is understandable that he feels embarrassed and that his confidence is shaken, yet we know that God has not forgotten him and has not wasted this season. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You serve the Lord Christ, Colossians 3:23-24. His labor for your family and for the church is seen by God even when the job market has not yet opened a door. We also remember the promise that My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:19, and that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, Psalm 46:1. When anxiety and debt press in, we are called to cast all our cares on Him and to trust Him with the outcome.

We also hear your desire to align your wills with God's will in this trial, and that is the very place where peace is found. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight, Proverbs 3:5-6. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11. Even when we cannot see the next step, we can trust that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose, Romans 8:28. We pray that God will use this waiting to refine, strengthen, and prepare you both for what He has next.

We pray together now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and lift up this husband and his wife and their daughter to You. Lord, You know the weight they are carrying, the months of searching, the growing debt, and the blow to his confidence. We ask You to remind him who he is in Christ, that You have created him for good works which You prepared beforehand that he should walk in them, Ephesians 2:10, and that his identity is secure as Your son. Take away the spirit of shame and embarrassment and replace it with Your strength, for You have said Fear not, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness, Isaiah 41:10. Lord, open the right door for employment, a career where he can use the talents and gifts You have given him to provide for his family and to glorify You. Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed, Proverbs 16:3, so we commit his job search to You and ask for favor with employers and for a miracle of provision. We also lift up his wife's work in interior design, that You would establish the work of her hands, bring clients, and give her wisdom and creativity as she builds this career again to help sustain the family. Provide for their financial needs, help them to steward what You provide with wisdom, and keep them from being overwhelmed by anxiety, but let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard their hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. Align their wills with Yours, Lord, and let their talents shine before others so that others may see their good works and glorify our Father in heaven, Matthew 5:16. Sustain their marriage in unity, hope, and love through this trial. We thank You that You hear us because we come in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we are saved and by which we have access to Your throne, Acts 4:12 and John 14:6. We trust Your timing and Your goodness and we wait expectantly for Your answer. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him together daily in prayer and in the Word, to speak truth over one another when discouragement comes, and to let your church family know of your needs so they can bear this burden with you. Keep being faithful in the small things, for God is faithful, and He will not forget your work and the love you have shown toward His name, Hebrews 6:10. We are standing with you for that miracle and for the restoration of confidence and joy as you watch God provide in His perfect way.

We were so moved by your honesty and the way you speak about your husband. Seeing someone you love work this hard flipping a house, coaching, volunteering, picking up concessions work, and still feeling embarrassed and shaken in his confidence is painful. It makes sense you both feel stretched and tired with debt building while you are also carrying a full workload getting back into interior design.

One thing that often weighs heaviest after a job loss is not just the paycheck but the sense of who he is. It helps to name out loud what is still true, that his value to your family and to God is not measured by how quickly the next job comes. You already see his diligence and talent, and hearing that from you regularly can steady him more than you know.

It may help to sit down together this week and name the one financial pressure that feels most urgent, whether a bill or debt payment, and consider talking with a trusted financial counselor at your church or community agency for a clear next step together. And as you wait, building in a simple time to rest and be honest with each other about the strain can protect you both from carrying it alone.

Father, we lift this husband and wife to You. Provide for their needs, open the right door for work that fits the gifts You gave him, and restore his confidence in Your care. Give them unity, peace and trust as they seek Your will day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your heavy burden has been laid before the Lord and before His people, and we have heard the cry of your heart for your husband and for your household. You do well to bring this trial to the throne of grace, for there is no place so fitting for a pressed and weary soul as the mercy seat of our God.

You speak of a good man who labours diligently, though the door of employment has not yet opened since May. He turns his hand to the house that must be finished, he serves his church, he coaches his daughters, he runs concessions to keep bread upon the table, and yet his spirit is cast down with embarrassment. Think of patient Job, of whom it is written, In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. The Lord permitted the hedge to be taken away, and Job sat among the ashes, his glory no longer fresh in him, his friends misunderstanding him, his heart sore troubled. Yet God had not forgotten him, nor had God ceased to love him. The trial was not a sign of divine displeasure, but a furnace in which faith was proved. If God could uphold Job in all that loss and shame, He can surely uphold your husband now. Let him not measure his worth by the speed of an answer to his applications, for the Lord who sees every honest effort will not despise the work of his hands.

And remember how it is written, The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. Your husband's captivity, this season of waiting and of debt, has its appointed end, for our longest sorrows have a close and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery. The Lord knows how to renew the bow in the hand that has grown slack, and to anoint with fresh oil. At the last Job received twice as much as he had before, not because he demanded it, but because God is gracious and His purpose is to defeat the enemy and to show His own faithfulness.

We will pray for you both, that you may be kept from unbelieving speeches in this strait, and may be enabled to say with Job, Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him, yielding your wills wholly to His holy will.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, Husband and Keeper of Thy people, Thou hast in Thy wisdom permitted this family to walk through want and waiting. Look in mercy upon this husband, who labours with his hands and serves his household and his church. Lift up his countenance, and let him see that his labour is not in vain in the Lord. Take away the spirit of shame and clothe him with a quiet confidence, not in himself, but in Christ who strengthens him. Open, we beseech Thee, a door of honest employment where the talents Thou hast given him may be used for Thy glory and for the good of his family. Provide for their debts and daily needs according to Thy riches, and keep them from the slavery and anxiety of great want. Bless also his wife as she has returned to her work to help provide, grant her skill and favour in her calling, and let both husband and wife be of one mind to glorify Thee in whatsoever station Thou shalt appoint. Teach them to seek first Thy kingdom and to trust Thy fatherly provision, knowing that salvation and every good gift is through Jesus Christ our Lord alone, in whose name we offer this prayer. Amen.
