Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer for your nephew is a beautiful expression of love and faith, and it is right to bring him before the Lord as he steps into this new season of living on his own and pursuing his studies.
The Scripture tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. That means faith is not a vague wish. It gives real substance to our hope in Christ and it makes the unseen promises of God more certain to us than what we can see with our eyes. One of the greatest needs for a young man on his own for the first time is to learn to see Him who is invisible. When Moses left Egypt he endured because he kept his eyes on God rather than on the power of the king. In the same way your nephew can endure the pressures of studies, loneliness, decisions and temptations when his faith keeps Christ before him as a living reality.
The Bible also makes clear that a living faith will show itself in the way we live. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by our works, and no ritual or effort can make us righteous. Yet if faith is genuine it will not remain alone. It will produce a changed life and obedient actions that correspond to what we say we believe. To say we believe and then live as if we do not is a dead faith. True faith works. For your nephew this means his faith will be demonstrated in the daily choices he makes while no one is watching, in how he stewards his time in study, in moral purity, in honesty, in seeking the Lord, and in turning from what is wrong. Pray that his faith would be that kind of living faith that naturally bears fruit.
Scripture reminds us that those who have gone before us, like Abraham, did not grow weak in faith by focusing on human limitations. Abraham did not dwell on his own inability or the impossibility of the circumstances, but he trusted the promise of God. Your nephew will face moments when his own strength, wisdom or resources feel insufficient. Pray that he will not fix his eyes on those limitations but on the faithfulness of God who raised Jesus from the dead and who counts faith in Christ as righteousness.
Faith does not guarantee an easy path, and the Lord does not want us to be moved away from our confidence in Him when afflictions or pressures come. The concern for every believer is to continue walking in faith. So pray that your nephew will be established and comforted in his faith, that he will receive strength not by trying harder in his own power but by hearing and trusting the word of God and by receiving the help of the Holy Spirit as a gift through faith.
Let us pray together for him. Father, we thank You for this young man and for the work You have begun in him. We ask that You would strengthen him by Your Spirit, increase his faith in Jesus Christ, and give him endurance to walk faithfully each day. Give him guidance in every decision, wisdom in his studies, and grace to live in a way that reflects that Christ is his life. Guard him from what would pull him away from You and help his faith to be living and active, showing itself in obedience and love for You. Keep his eyes on Jesus who is unseen yet ever present, and let him know that his past, present and future are secure through faith in Christ alone. In the name of Jesus we ask this, amen.
