I have joined with you in prayer for your mother and I thank you for sharing this burden so we can carry it together. Scripture teaches that we are one body in Christ, and when one part of the body suffers the whole body feels it. Your pain for your mother is not yours alone, we feel it with you and we bring her before the Lord together.
The Gospels show us how tender Jesus is toward sickness. On one occasion He came into the home of Peter and found Peter's wife's mother lying sick with a fever, the kind of fever that was very common in that region near the Sea of Galilee where mosquitoes bred in the marshes. Jesus touched her hand and the fever left her, and she was able to get up and serve. On that same day He healed many others, a man with leprosy, the servant of a centurion who was paralyzed and in great pain, and in the evening a multitude who were brought to Him with diseases and with spirits that oppressed them. He did not turn anyone away. He showed that He has authority over fever, over pain that locks up the joints and weakens the body, and over every affliction.
Matthew tells us that this was to fulfill what Isaiah had spoken, that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. When Jesus took bread and said this is my body which is broken for you, He was pointing to the suffering He would endure. Though His bones were not broken, His body was wounded and bruised for us, and Scripture says by His wounds we are healed. That healing includes forgiveness of sin and it also includes the healing of the body. When we remember His broken body we are reminded that He has already provided for our healing and we can come to Him in faith to receive it.
So I am praying for your mother in the name of Jesus, that the Lord would touch her as He touched Peter's mother in law, that this fever would leave and that the pains throughout her body would be lifted. I am asking Him to give her relief, to restore her strength, to grant her good health and length of days according to His gracious will, and to give you peace as you care for her.
God made our bodies and He knows how wonderfully we are formed. He knows our need for breath and strength and health, and the body is for the Lord and the Lord is for the body. He is not distant from physical suffering. He cares for the body He created and He will one day give to those who trust in Christ a new body that will never grow weak or sick, an eternal body made by God. Until that day we live in this present body which can groan under weakness, but we can bring every need to Him now with confidence.
Continue to look to Jesus for her healing, keep seeking Him in prayer, and continue to care for her physical needs with whatever help is available. Trust His love and His power, knowing that He hears when we call on Him. May the Lord lay His healing hand upon your mother, comfort her, take away the fever and pain, and sustain her day by day. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who bore our sicknesses and who is our healer. Amen.
