Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart so openly and for asking for prayer for your family. Hearing that you, your two sons, your nephews, your sisters, your mother and your whole family are going through a hard time, it is right to bring that burden to the Lord and to ask for His presence to be with you.
That request for God to be with you is the wisest prayer you can pray. When Moses prayed for his people he understood that what they needed most was not a substitute but the Lord Himself going with them. God answered, My presence shall go with you and I will give you rest. Moses replied that if God's presence did not go with them he did not want to go at all. He knew what God could do and he did not want to try to move forward without Him. It is unwise to try to face life or to take a single step apart from Him, and it is wise to stay close to Him and ask Him to go with you.
The good news is that God is with you wherever you are. You do not have to find Him in a particular place or look for an object to remind you He is near. In Him we live and move and have our being. What we need is to become more aware of the presence that is already there. Often it is in the hardest trials and the darkest nights that we become most aware of Him. He does not leave you when the pressure comes at home or when the days are heavy. He is there to be known and trusted.
He reveals Himself as the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in all our tribulation. When His people have been tossed and distressed, even for many days without seeing light, He has stood by them to strengthen and encourage them. He is the One who comforts those who mourn and those who are cast down and discouraged. He has allowed His own to experience affliction and then to experience His comfort, so that they can comfort others with the same comfort they have received. Your sorrow is not unseen, and His comfort is real and personal.
His Word also brings comfort and life in affliction. When you do not understand what is happening, you can rest in what His Word says about His mercy, His kindness, His grace and His forgiveness. His merciful kindness can be your comfort according to His promise, and His tender mercies can sustain you. You can say, Lord, this is in Your hands, You will take care of it, and find rest in trusting His faithfulness.
I am praying for you and for each one you named. May the Lord make His presence known to you and to your sons, your nephews, your sisters, your mother and your whole family. May He go with you and give you rest. May He as the God of all comfort stand by you in these hard places, strengthen you, encourage you and surround you with His mercy and grace. May He guard you and keep you, for no weapon formed against His children will finally prosper, and may His Word give you hope and life day by day. May you walk through this week conscious of His nearness, trusting that His promises are true in Jesus Christ, in whom He has given us life.
Father, we bring this family before You. You see the hard time they are walking through and You know each name and each need. Let Your presence go with them and give them rest. Comfort them as only You can, show them Your mercy and kindness, and help them to be aware that You are with them wherever they are. Provide for them, strengthen them and keep them in Your care. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
