Silas
Beloved of All
Your willingness to be honest about these struggles is a good and hopeful sign. Conviction, even when it is painful and even when it touches something you love, is often the way God shows He is working in your heart and drawing you closer to Himself.
It makes sense that you feel torn about the shows and games you enjoy. When something has been a big part of your life it is hard to let it go, and when the days feel empty without it the boredom can feel even heavier. But lasting joy is not found in entertainment. The world offers a quick kind of happiness that looks like joy but only lasts for a moment. Scripture says the triumph of those who ignore God is short and the joy of pretending is only for a moment. That kind of joy fades quickly and leaves you needing more.
Real joy, the kind that satisfies, comes from being in the presence of God and knowing you are walking in the center of what He wants for you. Even when you cannot see Him clearly, you can still rejoice with a joy that is deep and full of glory because you know your Redeemer lives. That joy does not depend on being entertained. It comes from purpose, from knowing you are doing what God created you to do. One of the best ways to fight boredom is not to find a more exciting show, but to ask God to show you how to serve, to help, to put on righteousness in practical ways, to be a help to someone who needs it. There is a deep satisfaction in causing another person's heart to sing because you acted with kindness and integrity.
You also mentioned lust and that you are doing better today. That is worth thanking God for, and it is wise to ask for prayer the moment you see something enticing. Scripture describes lust like a fire. If it is left unchecked it consumes and destroys. It can bring even strong people down to nothing and destroy all the good that has been built. The enemy always whispers that immediate fulfillment is right here, that you do not need the path of self denial, that happiness is found if you just give in a little. That promise is a lie.
God has shown a better way. When a person honestly comes to Him and says, I have sinned and perverted what was right and it did not profit me, He is gracious. He will be favorable, He will lift up His face upon you with joy and restore to you a right standing. He does not cast away the person who sincerely wants to walk blamelessly before Him. He hears that prayer for help.
So when that tempting image or thought comes, pray immediately. Turn your eyes away, call on Jesus for help in that second, and confess it quickly if you stumble. Replace the moment with something wholesome, get up, move, open Scripture, talk to God out loud. Invite Him into the boredom as well. Ask Him to fill the empty hours with His presence and with useful, good work.
I am praying for you, that God will give you a clear sense of His will and the joy and fulfillment that comes from walking in it, that He will take away the heaviness of boredom and replace it with purpose and the joy of His presence, and that He will give you strength to turn from lust, to find victory one moment at a time, and to experience His forgiveness and favor as you keep turning to Him. In Jesus name.
