We hear your heart in this and we join with you in prayer, thanking God that you are sensitive to the conviction of the Holy Spirit even when it is painful to lay something down that you love. That sensitivity is a gift and we pray you will continue to heed it.
When you feel conviction about what you are watching, that is God lovingly guiding you toward holiness. We are called to set no vile thing before our eyes, as it says in Psalm 101:3, and to consider whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report in Philippians 4:8. Much of what is in entertainment like DBZ glorifies violence, false gods and spiritual power apart from God, and even if it is entertaining, if the Spirit is convicting you it is not profitable for you. Whatever is not of faith is sin in Romans 14:23. We encourage you to obey that conviction fully, trusting that God is not taking joy away but protecting your conscience and making room for something better. Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God in 1 Corinthians 10:31.
We also hear your struggle with boredom and we understand how empty days can feel when something you enjoyed is removed. But boredom often reveals that we have been finding our joy and purpose in entertainment rather than in Christ himself. True and lasting joy is not found in a show or a game, but in His presence where there is fullness of joy in Psalm 16:11. God has created you for good works which he prepared in advance that you should walk in them in Ephesians 2:10, and whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men in Colossians 3:23. We pray God will fill your time with purpose, whether through His Word, prayer, fellowship, serving others, or using your gifts, so that your days are not boring but fruitful.
We rejoice with you that you are doing better in breaking free from lust today, and we want to strengthen you to continue to walk in victory. Lust is a battle for every believer and God calls us to purity. This is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5. We have found it helpful to make a covenant with our eyes as in Job 31:1 and to flee youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace in 2 Timothy 2:22. When you see something enticing, immediately take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ in 2 Corinthians 10:5 and walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh in Galatians 5:16. Turn your eyes away, pray in that instant, and quote Scripture. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape in 1 Corinthians 10:13.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6, and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. It is by His blood and His name that our prayers are heard and our sins are forgiven, including lust and any other sin, when we confess and believe in Him.
We pray together for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up our brother before Your throne of grace. Thank You for the conviction You have placed in his heart, give him strength to obey You and to lay down DBZ and any other entertainment that does not honor You, and help him not to look back with shame but with faith that You have better for him. Fill his days with Your presence and Your purpose, take away the spirit of boredom and restore to him the joy of Your salvation, show him how to redeem his time and find delight in You, Your Word, and serving You. Lord, we thank You for the progress he has made against lust, and we ask for complete deliverance, give him power to flee temptation, to look away, to pray immediately when enticed, and to walk in purity and self-control by Your Holy Spirit. Guard his eyes and his heart, renew his mind, and let him know how loved and forgiven he is in Christ. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
