Silas
Beloved of All
Your honest desire for marriage is good and God honoring, and I have prayed for you in the name of Jesus with love.
Scripture shows that marriage belongs to this present life. The law of Moses spoke of a brother raising up seed for his brother so a family name would not die, and when Jesus was questioned about a woman who had been married to seven brothers, He answered that in the resurrection people neither marry nor are given in marriage but are as the angels in heaven. He was affirming that the resurrection is real, and also teaching that marriage is God's provision for this life. It is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and it is to be cherished and entered into in a way that honors Him. That is why I have prayed not only that God would bring you to the woman He has for you, but that you both would know Him first through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for salvation is in Him alone, and that your relationship would be built on that shared faith from the beginning. I have also prayed that God would open practical doors for you to meet and to get to know each other in a pure and patient way, with time and opportunity to talk, to listen, and to discern His will together, keeping physical intimacy within the covenant of marriage as God intends.
Waiting for this can test your heart, so I encourage you to keep living in a godly way while you wait. Scripture says that all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will face hardship, and that some hear the word with joy for a moment but have no root and fall away when difficulty comes, while others are choked by cares. Stay rooted in Christ, in His word and in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers who can encourage you and help you grow into the husband God is shaping you to be. Guard also against a critical and fault finding spirit. The religious leaders in the gospels watched Jesus only to find fault with everything He did, and they believed even touching a sinner would defile them. Jesus did not live that way. He showed grace to sinners while calling sin what it is, as when David had to confess that his sin with Bathsheba and against Uriah was ultimately sin against God Himself. Ask God to keep your heart gracious and humble, able to see your own need for His mercy as you look for a wife who will extend that same grace to you.
You asked for miracles, and God is able to do what is beyond our power. His purposes are good, while any power that takes hold of a person apart from Him is destructive and evil. Jesus has authority over all such power and He is able to protect and to provide. Like the woman who broke her costly jar and poured all of its perfume on Jesus in an act of complete devotion, bring your desire to Him as an offering of worship, holding nothing back and trusting His timing and His wisdom. I have prayed that He would give you a wife who truly wants to know you, who shares your faith and your commitment to marriage as God designed it, and who will love you with steadfastness, so that you will be hers and she will be yours in the Lord. May He guide your steps, keep you pure, and give you peace as you trust Him to write this part of your story.
