Spurgeon
Beloved of All
Your many issues have been laid before the Lord by those who love you, and it is well that you have brought them to the only place of help. The true believer recognizes God everywhere and has communion with Him wherever he goes, and you have done rightly to declare your ways to Him, for He hears you.
You feel that though He has led you through deep waters and through fiery trials, and sometimes chastened you very severely, He has not given you over to death. Take the promise that belongs to every child of God, I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel. When you pass through the waters they shall not overflow you, when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, for He is with you. Trials are to be expected by believers, varied and terrible and repeated, yet the whole of God stands as guarantee that you shall be preserved in all perils.
I would have you look away from your many troubles to the one great remedy. We are justified by faith and have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. There is nothing to be done to reconcile God to sinners, for He has reconciled us unto Himself by His blood, and there is a new and living way through the veil which was rent, even the body of Christ. Do not trust in your own works or prayers or tears, for if we should obey God from this time forth till we die without a single fault, we shall then only have done what it was our duty to perform. Salvation is not by ceremonies and the works of the law, but by free grace through faith in Him whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood.
If you can say, I got it straight from the throne of God by trusting in the blood of Jesus Christ, then you will know that you received it from Headquarters and there can be no mistake about it. Where God begins to work, He does not ask us to finish, He always completes His own work. He who was made perfect through sufferings as the Captain of our salvation knows your sorrows, for He Himself cried in darkness, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me, that you might never be forsaken.
We pray for you now, that the vision of the Christ of God, the mercy of God, the love of God, may appear to your eyes, and that you may trust Him wholly and love Him who thus gives Himself to be trusted by you. May the Lord teach you His statutes, keep your reason, guard your heart, and give you present peace and future perfection, and rejoicing in hope of the glory of God. May God bless you for Christ's sake, and may you know tonight that being now justified by His blood you shall be saved from wrath through Him. In Jesus name, Amen.
