Pray for ### good health and long life

When afflictions multiply and the weight of sorrow presses down, do not let your heart be troubled or give way to despair. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted; He does not despise the tears of those who cry out to Him day and night. But consider the case of righteous Job. He lost his children, his health, and his goods. He sat in ashes, his own body a torment, and even his friends accused him of hidden wickedness. Yet he did not curse God, nor did he allow bitterness to rule his spirit. He knew nothing certain about the resurrection, yet he held fast. How much more, then, should you and your mother cling to the hope of the kingdom, now that Christ has risen and made all things plain?

Do not therefore say, “Why has God allowed this?” Do not charge Him with neglect. For many things are hidden from us, and what seems a delay is often a preparation for greater mercy. You pray for your mother’s liver, for her health and long life. God is able to restore her. But while you ask, examine your own soul. Is there any root of anger, any grudge you hold against another? The ways of the revengeful lead unto death. If you remember injuries, if you speak evil of those who have wronged you, you injure yourself first. Let no bitter word against anyone proceed from your mouth, for the evil speaker defiles his own conscience before he harms another. Humble yourself, rather, and say, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” The Pharisee spoke truth when he said he was not like the publican, yet he was condemned because he exalted himself. Do not compare your hardship with the apparent ease of the wicked; do not envy those who seem to prosper while you struggle. Their path is slippery; your affliction, borne with patience, refines you like gold.

As for your debts and the want of a monthly sum, do not lose courage. He who feeds the ravens and clothes the lilies will not abandon those who trust in Him. Yet I would have you remember that virtue gladdens the doer first. If you deal honestly with all, if you share whatever little you have, if you refuse to take what is not yours, God will send relief in His time. And do not cease from hearing the word of God and assembling with the faithful. A tree may receive ten strokes and not fall, yet by those very blows it is loosened, and the eleventh brings it down. So too, every sermon, every prayer, every reading of Scripture works upon the root of your soul, even when you perceive no fruit. Do not say, “I have prayed so long and nothing changes.” Keep knocking. Keep weeping before the Lord. He will answer when it is best.

And your father who has gone to his rest: he is in the hands of God. Do not grieve as those without hope. Instead, let his memory spur you and your mother to run with greater endurance the race that is set before you. The same God who strengthened him in his last hour will strengthen you both. Pray not only for bodily healing and financial stability, but above all for a clean heart and a good conscience. That is the health of the soul, and it makes even poverty sweet.

May you both, having been refined by these trials, obtain the eternal blessings which surpass all that we ask or think, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

It is heavy to carry so many burdens at once: your mother’s health failing, the crushing weight of debt without any income, and the lingering ache of your father’s passing. You are asking for healing, provision, and guidance, and beneath those requests I hear the raw, basic cries of a soul that has been stripped down. When the props we lean on, a steady job, a healthy body, the presence of a parent, are suddenly gone, we are left with nothing but existence and desperate questions.

In the story of Job, a man lost everything at once. His wealth, his children, his health. He sat in the dust, sores covering his body, and his own wife told him to curse God and die. His heart poured out confusion: Why was I ever born? Why doesn’t God just take my life? Those are the groans of a person who feels life is no longer bearable. You have not gone to that extreme, but you do know that same kind of bewilderment when you look at your mom’s liver struggling, when the monthly bills come due with no paycheck in sight.

Job’s friends made a terrible mistake. They insisted that suffering is always a direct result of hidden sin. They were sure that if Job just had a right relationship with God, he would be prosperous and healthy. But that was a lie. God had actually pointed Job out as a man of integrity. Your trials are not a sign that God has turned His back on you or your mom. He does not pervert justice, but He also does not promise a life free of pain and lack. The rain falls on the righteous and the unrighteous, and even godly people sometimes go through seasons where every earthly support crumbles.

What you are living right now is life in the raw. The basic needs are crying out: healing for her body, money to pay creditors, safety and strength for your diminished family. It is right to take these to God. He invites you to do exactly that. But as you pray, do not let the situation convince you that He is distant or that He has stopped loving you. When Job had no answers, he still refused to curse God. He could not understand what was happening, yet he held fast to this: The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. That was not a cheerful cliché; it was a battered man clinging to the truth that God alone is God, even when every nerve screamed for relief.

Your requests for a good future in His arms and for holistic help show that you are already looking beyond just physical and financial fixes. That is exactly where lasting peace is found. As long as you know that your life and your mom’s life are in His hands, that He is working in love and wisdom and always knows what is best, you can rest there by faith. You may not see the end of this chapter, but you have a Savior who has already secured the final one. Jesus answered the deepest question of Job, what happens when a man dies, by saying, “I am the resurrection and the life.” Because He rose, your father is not simply gone. Because He rose, the illness and the credit problems are not the end of your story.

So keep asking for your mom’s liver to be healed and for her days to be long. Keep knocking on heaven’s door for financial stability. But in the waiting, let your soul find its anchor here: God loves you, He has chosen you in Christ, and these momentary afflictions are working for you a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Life is short, and soon all that will matter is that you are with Him. Let the hope of eternal life lift your head today, and let the knowledge that He sees your affliction give you strength to breathe another hour. He will hold you and your mom safe.

It has been on our hearts to lift her up before the Lord, asking Him to restore her liver, renew her strength, and grant her many more years of vibrant health. We have also prayed earnestly for your financial needs, asking our Heavenly Father to open doors of provision, guide you to steady employment, and release His supernatural abundance so that every debt is met and every need is supplied according to His riches in glory.

We continue to intercede for both of you, asking the Holy Spirit to lead you moment by moment, to wrap you in His peace, and to fill you with fresh hope as you trust in Him. We pray that the Lord would strengthen your family bonds, heal any sorrow left by your father’s passing, and establish each of you on the solid rock of His promises. May He keep you safe, make you strong, and prosper every area of your lives as you walk in His perfect will.
