Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Please pray for me. I’m a mentally and physically disabled senior citizen who is living on a very limited fixed income. Up until about 3½ or so years ago, I had been the so-called primary caregiver for my mom while she lived in the Pacific Northwest. Being far from perfect, I slowly fell into a pit where I was consuming quite a bit of alcohol in an effort to numb the serious pain I had been experiencing for a number of years. The alcohol consumption, coupled with the foolish decision to FAST in an effort to lose some weight and possibly become ‘healthier’ was something that nearly killed me. I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior about 50 or so years ago. Sadly, about 40 years ago I turned my back on God and pretty much ignored Jesus and our Heavenly Father’s Will for my life. For a while, I was a street drug abuser, and I slowly switched over to being a somewhat typical Alcoholic. A little over 3 years ago I went from consuming about 1 quart of 100-proof booze daily, to about a cup a day. Along with that I started FASTING in an effort to lose some weight. That combination nearly killed me and I’m unable to do much for myself after I developed Wernicke’s encephalopathy (WE) and Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome (WKS). With that, let’s simply say, “I’m alive today, ‘By The Grace of God!’” Both, together or separately often result in the individual’s death. Praise The Lord! Our Heavenly Father must have had a different plan for me. I’m now residing in an assisted adult living facility which is owned and run by a Born-Again Christian. None of my co-residents are Born-Again, and due to their ages and their ‘lifestyles’ all I feel led to do at this time is pray for them and their families. May God’s Will Be Done. Please keep me in your prayers and please ask God and Jesus and The Holy Spirit to Guide me and Help me to do His Will while I’m here and while my co-residents are here. I ask this in Jesus’ Precious and Holy Name. Amen.

We praise God with you and give glory to Him for His mercy that has kept you alive, for it is truly by the grace of God that you are here today. We rejoice to hear that you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and that even after turning away for so many years, the Lord in His great patience has drawn you back to Himself. That is the heart of our Father, like the prodigal son who returned home and was embraced, so the Lord welcomes all who return with a repentant heart. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast Ephesians 2:8-9.

We want to gently and lovingly speak to the struggle you have shared regarding alcohol and the harmful fasting. The Word warns us that wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler, whoever is led astray by them is not wise Proverbs 20:1 and we are told do not be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18. Alcohol had taken a strong hold and nearly destroyed the temple God gave you, for you are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. We thank God that He has delivered you from consuming a quart a day to where you are now, and we encourage you in Christ to continue to walk in complete sobriety and to seek wise and godly counsel for your health and nutrition, honoring the body the Lord has preserved. His grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness 2 Corinthians 12:9, and we pray you will lean on that strength daily.

We are encouraged that you are now residing in a facility run by a born again believer and that your heart is to pray for your co-residents and their families. That is a beautiful and powerful ministry. We may not always be able to preach with words, but we can intercede and live as a quiet light before them. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28. Our Heavenly Father does indeed have a plan for you, for we know the thoughts that He thinks toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11. Even with mental and physical disabilities and living on a very limited fixed income, you are not forgotten or without purpose. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10.

Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne in the precious and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, thanking You for this dear brother's life, for sparing him through Wernicke's encephalopathy and Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome when many do not survive, and for Your relentless love that pursued him after he turned away. We praise You that Your mercies are new every morning and that You have forgiven and cleansed him. Lord, we ask You to continue to heal and strengthen his mind and body as much as is within Your will, to provide for every financial need according to Your riches in glory, and to fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding as he casts his cares upon You Philippians 4:6-7. Holy Spirit, guide him daily and help him to do the Father's will right where he is planted. Give him wisdom, comfort in his disabilities, protection from any desire to return to alcohol, and a gentle boldness to be a witness through prayer and godly living to his co-residents who do not yet know You. Bless the owner of this facility and use this home for Your glory. Let our brother know how deeply he is loved and that his prayers for others are powerful and effective. We ask that You bless the Lord, O his soul, and not forget all His benefits, who forgives all his iniquities, who heals all his diseases, who redeems his life from destruction Psalm 103:2-4. We trust his life and his future entirely to Your good and perfect will. In Jesus' precious and holy name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast in the Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with your believing caretaker and other believers when possible. Keep praying for your co-residents and their families, as you are doing, trusting that God desires that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9. Your life is a testimony of grace, and God can use your story of rescue to bring hope to others in that home. We will continue to keep you in our prayers, asking God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit to guide you and help you to do His will each day He gives you.

Thank you for trusting us with your story. We are grateful you are alive and we hear both the hardship and the gratitude in your words. Caring for your mom for years, living with ongoing pain, and then walking through the struggle with alcohol and the serious health crisis that followed would leave anyone weary. We thank God with you for His grace in keeping you through it.

We also hear your heart now, wanting to follow Him faithfully right where He has placed you. Living with lasting effects from illness and on a fixed income in an assisted living home brings real daily limits, and it is understandable to wonder what your purpose is there. Your desire to pray for your fellow residents and their families is a meaningful way to love them, and God sees that quiet faithfulness.

It may help to share that desire with the owner of your home or a trusted pastor, asking if there is a simple way you could be part of praying for others there, or if regular visits or fellowship could be arranged for encouragement. We also encourage you to stay close to your medical and care team there as you continue to navigate your health, alongside prayer.

We are praying for you and will keep you in prayer.

Father, thank You for this brother and for sparing his life. Give him daily strength, peace and clear guidance for each step, and draw him close to You. Use his prayers for those around him, and surround him with caring support. In Jesus' name, amen.

God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. We join you in giving praise to God for His preserving mercy which has kept you alive when, by your own testimony, death was so near. What you describe is a solemn reminder that all things are under His regulation and have an appointed place in His plan, and that nothing happens but what He permits or ordains. As surely as His will is the axle of the universe, so His will has held your life in His hand, and we bless Him that His purpose for you was not death but further opportunity to know His grace and to do His will where He has now placed you.

We thank God with you that about fifty years ago you trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Though you confess that for many years you turned from Him to walk in ways that grieved Him and harmed your own body and soul, we rejoice that salvation rests not upon the strength of our resolve but upon His will who says, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy. The work of the Spirit is to change the human will and make men willing in the day of His power, and we see His gracious hand in bringing you to repentance and in preserving you through great affliction. It is His prerogative to forgive and He delights to exercise it. He says, I will pardon them whom I reserve. Healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction and both are bestowed upon the Lord's people.

Your affliction of body and mind through strong drink and through unwise fasting, issuing in Wernicke's encephalopathy and Korsakoff syndrome, shows how all nations and all individuals need healing. There is a great ill, a broken heart and a broken body, but there is a great mercy, He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. He who sincerely repents of sin will hate it and find no pleasure in it, and will cast his burden upon the Lord who alone can bear it. We pray that the Lord Himself will strengthen you in the Lord, for He has faithfully promised, I will strengthen them, and that promise will be assuredly performed. The strength He gives is wisely balanced and fitly infused, and it will keep the soul in health until the glory life begins.

We will pray for you as you have asked. We ask our Heavenly Father, in the precious and holy name of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit, to guide you daily to do His revealed will and to be content with His providential will shown in the circumstances that surround you in the assisted living facility. May He give you grace to say, I will go or I will stay, if it is the will of God, and to find your best profit in doing His will there. May He use your prayers for your co residents and their families, that those who are not yet His people may be called His people, and that her beloved which was not beloved may yet be beloved through faith in Christ alone, for there is salvation in no other.

We pray also for the owner of the home who knows the Lord, that he may be sustained in his service, and for your continued sobriety and care under those whom God has provided for your daily needs. May you be kept learning and then teaching what you learn, telling to others with wonder what God has done for your soul, for in telling it you will keep it sweet and it will not be forgotten. May the leaves of the tree which are for the healing of the nations bring abiding health to your soul, and may you know that He who has begun to heal you will work that healing till you shall be without spot or wrinkle in His presence.

We commend you to Him who will not cast off forever and who has not forgotten to be gracious. Look to Jesus, trust Him anew each day, and live to the utmost of life's possibilities by drinking in as much of His love and light and power as you can hold, and reflecting His glory among those around you.
