Praise report

I think that I'm starting to forgive my mother. I felt something like a stone removed itself from me yesterday. I also felt like a dog with a bone. My teeth are starting to come out of it.

We rejoice with you in this precious work the Lord is doing in your heart! Forgiveness is a miracle of grace, and the freedom you describe, like a stone being lifted, is the very peace Christ died to give. "Bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do." (Colossians 3:13 WEB) What a beautiful picture of the Holy Spirit’s healing power at work in you.

That image of a dog with a bone is so vivid, clinging to bitterness is like gnawing on something that only poisons us. But praise God, He is loosening your grip! "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." (Ephesians 4:31-32 WEB) This is not just emotional relief; it is obedience to Christ and the path to true healing.

We pray now that the Lord would complete this good work in you. May He replace every remnant of pain with His perfect love, and may your mother see the light of Christ in your forgiveness. Father, we ask You to heal every wound, to soften every hard place in their relationship, and to bind them together with cords of Your unbreakable love. Give them grace to walk in humility, patience, and kindness toward one another. Let this forgiveness be a testimony of Your power to restore what was broken. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Continue to yield to the Holy Spirit’s conviction, He is faithful to lead you into all truth and freedom. If there are still areas of struggle, bring them before the Lord in prayer. You are not alone in this journey; we stand with you, believing God for complete restoration.

We are really grateful you shared this good news. Hearing that something like a stone lifted is such an encouraging picture of what God is doing as you lean toward forgiving your mother.

What you describe fits how forgiveness often unfolds. There can be a clear decision to release the debt and not hold onto revenge, and then more slowly the heart catches up as resentment and heaviness are replaced with compassion and peace. That lighter feeling you noticed yesterday sounds like that emotional side beginning to shift, which is no small thing after carrying it for a long time.

We encourage you to keep tending to this gently. It can help to pause and simply thank the Lord for what you felt lift, and to notice in prayer when old thoughts try to pull you back. If you have a pastor or trusted mature believer you feel safe with, sharing this milestone with them can help you stay steady in it.

You also mentioned your teeth. If that is a physical concern, we encourage you to have a dentist or medical professional take a look alongside prayer.

Father, we thank You for the work You have begun in our friend's heart and for the relief of that stone being lifted. Keep softening and healing what has been hurt, and lead them day by day in Your grace and wisdom. In Jesus' name, amen.

Giving thanks to God with you for this mercy you describe, for it is the Lord alone who can take the stone away and give a heart of flesh. What you speak of as a stone removed is the very work of His forgiving grace, and it is right to give Him the praise for it.

You have known something of that bitterness which sin brings, and the Scripture teaches that when we have felt the bitterness of our own sin against Christ, that bitterness makes Christ very sweet and it takes away all bitterness against our fellow men. When we see how much we have offended God and how freely He has pardoned us through the bleeding Sacrifice, we say within ourselves, after this I must be sweet and gentle and tender and forgiving towards others. Some have offended us, but how much more have we offended God. This is the sanctifying power of that bitterness.

Do not think that this forgiveness in you must be measured by the bitterness of sorrow you have felt. Pardon is not according to the bitterness of our remorse, but according to the riches of His grace. He is greater at forgiving than you ever dreamed. He is a great forgiver, and wonderful is He when He takes to pardoning through Christ. If you have tasted that He has forgiven you all your trespasses according to those riches, you will find the strength to forgive as you have been forgiven.

Healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction in the gospel. When Jesus healed the man taken with the palsy He first said, thy sins be forgiven thee, for He knew the root of the disease. Pardon and healing are one in His hand. The very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue to change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. So the Lord who has begun to lift this burden will also bind up the wound with bands of grace, washing it with water from the side of Jesus and spreading over it the ointment of forgiving grace.

That you felt as a dog with a bone, holding fast with teeth set, is an honest picture of how resentment holds us. To feel the teeth now loosening is to feel the Lord gently opening the hand that was clenched. Pray that He would continue this work, that you may not only feel the stone gone for a moment, but be kept in a forgiving spirit, overlooking offenses and enduring with patience, as God has endured with you.

Hasten to tell others of the boundless mercy of the God of love as you have found it, and whatever He says to you, do it. Obey Him at once and exactly in this matter of honoring your mother and walking in love, not from constraint but from gratitude. He has committed unto us the word of reconciliation, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. As you have received that reconciliation, walk in it.

May the Holy Spirit sweetly open up to you more and more the glories of forgiving grace, keep you tender, and perfect the healing He has begun, for Christ's sake.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your praise report gives great reason to give thanks to God, and we join you in thanking Him for what He has begun in your heart.

To feel a stone removed is a true picture of what forgiveness does. When resentment is held inside it weighs heavy and hard, but when we release it as God has released us, the burden lifts. Scripture calls us to be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other even as God in Christ forgave us, and to walk in love as beloved children imitating our Father. What you describe is that work taking place in you, and it is right to recognize it as His grace.

God commanded us to honor father and mother, and that honor includes releasing bitterness and choosing mercy, even when the past has been painful. This does not mean the wounds were not real, but it means you are choosing the way of Christ, who forgave us when we had nothing to offer Him in return. As you forgive, you become more like Him, and you open your own heart to receive more of His peace.

Let every prayer you offer continue with thanksgiving, as you are already doing. Thank Him for softening your heart, for taking away what was hard, and for helping you to let go. And continue to pray for your mother as well, asking God to bless her with His grace and truth and to draw her closer to Himself, and asking Him to keep your own mouth and heart pure from bitterness, so that your prayers remain clean and sincere before Him.

The image of a child who, even when corrected by his mother, still runs to her and prefers her above all others, reminds us of the simplicity and purity God desires in us. It is not a childish forgetting of what happened, but a willing choice to love and to prefer reconciliation over resentment.

If you still feel at times like you are holding tightly, as you put it like a dog with a bone, and that your teeth are only slowly coming free, do not be discouraged. Forgiveness is often a process, not a single moment. Each time you choose to release the hurt again and to bless rather than to hold a grudge, the grip loosens a little more. Keep bringing that feeling to the Lord in prayer, asking Him to complete the work He has started.

We thank God with you for this step, and we pray He will keep making your heart tender, kind, and rooted in the forgiveness you have received in Christ, so that this healing may grow deeper and bear lasting fruit in your life and in your relationship with your mother.

Rejoicing with you over this praise report and thanking God for what He is doing in your heart. That sense of a stone being lifted is a beautiful picture of what happens when the Lord begins to free us from bitterness.

Scripture teaches that bitterness, wrath, anger, harsh words and malice grieve the Holy Spirit, and we are called to put those things away. In their place God calls us to be kind to one another, tenderhearted rather than hard hearted, forgiving one another just as God for Christ's sake has forgiven us. That is the measure and the motive for our forgiveness. We have been forgiven so much through Jesus, and His forgiveness toward us becomes the power to forgive others.

Forgiving a parent can be especially deep work, because the wound often goes back so far and has been held so tightly. Your picture of holding on like a dog with a bone and now feeling your teeth start to let go describes that very well. For a long time the hurt is clenched and it feels impossible to release, but the Lord softens the heart and makes it tender again so you can let go.

The command to honor father and mother includes this kind of releasing. It does not mean pretending the hurt was not real or that everything was right, but it does mean choosing, by God's grace, to no longer hold the debt against her, to speak without malice, and to walk in kindness as God has been kind to you.

Thank God for this beginning and keep walking in it. Forgiveness is often both a moment when the stone is lifted and a daily choice to keep putting away the old bitterness whenever it tries to return and to choose kindness and mercy again. As you do, you are reflecting the very forgiveness you have received in Christ.

Praying that the Lord will continue this healing in you, keep your heart tender, guard you from taking up the offense again, and give you grace to walk in the freedom of His forgiveness each day.
