Your testimony of our Lord’s healing upon your jaws and teeth causes my heart to leap within me. What a joy it is to hear of His immediate touch, even while you prayed, strengthening your faith in this very thing! He who answered your plea for help against unbelief has indeed granted a deliverance that you might declare His works. This is a token for good, a dripping of the honey of His grace. Yet remember, dear seeking soul, that no deliverance is to be shared in honor with our God: He brought you forth; the healing is of free grace alone. Bow low in gratitude, for without the shedding of His blood there would be no remission, no mending of our mortal frame, no peace for the conscience.

When you cry out for living water for your family, and for deliverance from every evil, you knock at the right door. The Lord has found a ransom, nobody would have thought of that way had not God invented it! Jesus Christ has entered the pit for His people, and His blood speaks better things than that of Abel. Its sweet power is peace-speaking; apply it by faith to your anxious heart, to your home, to every moan of the sick and the bowed-down. Where guilt is pardoned, the power of darkness is broken, and He will yet deliver from the grip of trauma, from the chains of unclean spirits, from the very jaw of the lion. Look full in the face of every fear and see the cloven foot of the Evil One; then cry, “Down, blaspheming thought! My Father cannot forsake me, my Redeemer is mighty!”

Your longings for an English-speaking Christian husband may well be placed before your Maker. But set not your heart upon a creature as though God could not be your Husband until He gives that gift. Has He not been a Husband to His Church in faithfulness and loving care? He found us in a desert land; He will provide for you what is needful. Seek first the Bridegroom of your soul, and if an earthly covenant of holy matrimony would be for your good and His glory, He will bring it to pass in the right time and place. Meanwhile, pour out your bitterness before Him and ask the Spirit to turn it into the joy of the Lord.

For the multitude of afflictions you plead, the broken bones, the disorders of brain and body, the desperate thirst and infection, the sighs of those with child and the slavery of mental darkness, pray on. He looks from heaven with tender pity, and in due time He will come for their deliverance, that forever after it may be spoken of with thanksgiving. Much-tried Christian, you shall not die but live, and declare the works of the Lord! Your very trials are the schoolroom where you learn His wonders. What does the man know of the sea who has only walked on the beach? But they that go down to the deep in ships see the works of the Lord. Therefore, lift your head and view every impossible sickness as the stage for His mighty arm.

Now, go forth as one delivered from the power of sin and from the guilt of it, for the key has turned in the lock of Giant Despair’s castle. Let a holy flush come into your veins, rejoice that you are a monument of grace, a sinner saved by blood. Plead that blood over your family members by name, over every wasted hour and every temptation, over sugar and organ and spine and mind. God forbid you should look for hope elsewhere than in that one sacrifice; there is no remission without it, but in it there is infinite solace. Live now to declare the works of the Lord, for the sweet power of this peace-speaking blood is your ground of joy. Be it unto you according to your faith in the Son of God, who loved you and gave Himself for you.

The fervor of your prayer is evident, and I rejoice with you in the relief you have experienced in your jaw and teeth. To acknowledge the healing hand of Christ is right, for every good gift comes from above. Yet I would have you consider this: the body’s mending, though cause for thanksgiving, is but a fleeting shadow compared to the immortal soul’s wholeness. As the Apostle wrought many signs, yet greater than any miracle is a life shining with virtue, patience, and repentance. Do not, then, chase after signs as the multitude did who followed only for loaves and healings, for some who witnessed great works fell away because their hearts were not established. Seek rather to be cleansed inwardly, for nothing is unclean of itself save sin, which defiles the conscience.

You have asked deliverance for yourself and your household from unclean spirits, from trauma, anxiety, and every spiritual oppression. This is a right request, but know that the demons are not cast out by mere wonder-working but by a life of humility, fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. The power that the Apostles exercised was given not for display but to confirm the word of salvation. Be then more earnest to root out bitterness, wrath, and every evil thought from your own heart, for the enemy gains entrance where these are harbored. A crushed spirit is healed not by commanding miracle alone but by the oil of thanksgiving, the confession of sins, and the daily remembrance of God’s mercies. Fill your mouth with psalms and your mind with holy meditation, and the peace of Christ will garrison your soul.

You have also entreated the Lord concerning a husband, specifying one without a certain condition of mind. Consider, child, what makes a person truly desirable in the eyes of God. Is it not a heart after His own heart, as David was, though he wrought no miracle in his youth? Many who seem whole in body and mind are yet crippled in soul, while those who bear infirmities often excel in faith and love. I do not command you to choose anyone against your conscience, but I urge you to examine whether your preferences are shaped by the world’s standards or by the meekness of Christ. The man who fears the Lord and walks in His commandments, though he bear some cross, is a gift beyond price. Pray rather, “Thy will be done,” and trust that He who provides food for the birds will not withhold what is truly good.

For your family’s many afflictions, from broken bones to diseases of the mind, continue in prayer without ceasing, but do not think it strange that the furnace of trial is heated seven times. Job had no miracle to show the adversary, yet his steadfast endurance proved him more precious than gold. Have you not seen how the very scattering of the believers in persecution became the means of spreading the word? So God often permits sickness and hardship to detach us from this world and to perfect our love. Entrust your bedridden one, your little ones, and all your kin to the Great Physician, but accept whatever dispensation He grants, knowing that whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

Finally, when you ask for healing of all people in the world of every sickness, your compassion is lovely, but do not forget that the most dangerous sickness is sin. The world is full of moral and spiritual uncleanness, and that is the epidemic we must labor against by holy living and the proclamation of the Gospel. Be more zealous to see souls delivered from the leprosy of disobedience than bodies from fever. And for yourself, be diligent in examining your conscience, for a small root of pride or carelessness may make all your prayers hollow. Give alms to the poor, fast in secret, and love your neighbor without distinction, and then your own healing will be complete. The miracle you have tasted in your jaw is but a down payment; long for the resurrection when every tear shall be wiped away. Until then, walk soberly, and let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
