Praise and prayer request

Disciple of Prayer
Praise the Lord that the parathyroid surgery was successful. I am so grateful for this. I have a concern for my singing voice. It takes time to come back. Please pray that it does. I have been singing praise to the Lord with my voice and my guitar for decades and would be shattered if I couldn't sing to him anymore.
An update on my son who is homeless. He's sleeping in the woods and refuses the help and treatment options offered by the courts for addiction and mental health services even though it would benefit him legally. He would rather have a record than to follow rules and be accountable. It breaks my heart. I cry a lot. And call out to the Lord Jesus on his behalf. It hurts to feel so powerless. He is a young man with so much promise and it's heartbreaking. Please pray for us. Thank you so much for your prayers.

We rejoice with you in the Lord for the successful parathyroid surgery! What a blessing to see God’s healing hand at work in your body. We give thanks for His faithfulness and provision in this season of recovery. Your heart for worship through song and music is a beautiful offering to the Lord, and we join you in praying for the full restoration of your voice. The psalmist declares, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!" (Psalm 150:6), and we believe God hears your desire to continue lifting your voice in praise to Him. The Lord is near to those who call on Him in truth (Psalm 145:18), and He delights in the songs of His children. We pray that He would strengthen your vocal cords, restore your breath, and renew your joy in singing His praises. May He grant you patience in this time of waiting and fill you with hope as you trust in His perfect timing.

Father, we come before You with grateful hearts for the healing You have already provided. We ask that You would complete the work You have begun in restoring our sister’s voice. Let her songs rise to You as a sweet fragrance, and may her worship be a testimony of Your goodness. Strengthen her faith as she waits, and remind her that You are the God who makes all things new. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

For your son, our hearts ache with yours as we consider the pain of watching a loved one struggle with addiction, mental health challenges, and the choices that lead him away from the help he so desperately needs. It is a heavy burden to carry, and we want you to know that your tears do not go unnoticed by the Lord. Jesus wept over Jerusalem (Luke 19:41), and He weeps with you now over your son. You are not powerless, you are standing in the gap for him in prayer, and that is one of the most powerful things you can do. The enemy would love to keep him bound in chains, but we serve a God who breaks every yoke (Isaiah 10:27). We rebuke the spirit of rebellion, addiction, and despair that seeks to destroy his life, and we declare that the light of Christ will pierce the darkness surrounding him.

Scripture tells us, "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results" (James 5:16). We stand with you in faith, believing that God is at work even when we cannot see it. Your son was fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and the Lord has a purpose for his life that the enemy cannot thwart. We pray that the Holy Spirit would convict his heart, soften his resistance, and draw him back to the Father’s love. May he come to a place of surrender, where he recognizes his need for help and the grace that is available to him. We also pray for you, dear sister, may the Lord sustain you, comfort you, and remind you that you are not alone in this battle.

Father, we lift up this precious young man to You. Break the chains of addiction and mental anguish that bind him. Surround him with Your presence, even in the woods where he sleeps, and let him feel the warmth of Your love. Soften his heart to receive the help that has been offered, and give him a hunger for righteousness. We ask that You would intervene in his legal situation and turn it for his good, as You promise in Romans 8:28. Strengthen our sister as she waits and prays, and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). We trust You to work all things together for good, and we declare that Your plans for him are plans for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

In the midst of these trials, we encourage you to hold fast to the truth that God is sovereign and His love for you and your son is unchanging. You are not defined by your circumstances, but by your identity in Christ. The enemy may whisper lies of hopelessness, but we declare over you the truth of God’s Word: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). Keep crying out to Jesus, He hears you, He sees you, and He is working even now. Lean on the body of Christ for support, and allow others to carry your burdens with you (Galatians 6:2). You are not alone.

We also want to gently remind you of the power of forgiveness and releasing your son into God’s hands. It is natural to feel anger or frustration toward the choices he is making, but we must guard our hearts against bitterness, which can take root and defile many (Hebrews 12:15). Forgiveness does not mean condoning his actions, but it frees you from the weight of carrying resentment. Trust that God’s justice and mercy are perfect, and that He loves your son even more than you do. Continue to pray for his salvation and restoration, and ask the Lord to give you wisdom in how to love him without enabling his destructive behaviors.

Lastly, we want to affirm the importance of your relationship with Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father and the hope of eternal life (John 14:6). If you have not already, we encourage you to examine your own heart and ensure that you have placed your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. The Bible tells us, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). Salvation is a free gift, not earned by our works, but received by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). If you have already confessed Jesus as Lord, we praise God for your faith and encourage you to continue growing in your relationship with Him. If not, we invite you to surrender your life to Him today and experience the peace and hope that only He can provide.

We are so grateful with you that the parathyroid surgery went well, that is truly a mercy. And we hear how much your singing voice means to you, not just as a gift but as a way you have loved and praised the Lord for decades. It is completely understandable to feel unsettled while you wait for it to fully return. While you continue to heal, perhaps even humming or playing your guitar and letting your heart sing silently can be an offering of trust, reminding you that God hears the melody in your spirit as clearly as any sound.

Your update about your son weighs heavily. The ache of watching someone you love refuse help, choose what seems so destructive, and sleep in the woods while holding so much promise, that is a deep and lonely grief. We ache with you. Those tears are not a sign of weak faith; they are the honest cry of a loving mother’s heart. When you feel powerless, remember that powerlessness honestly admitted is often the place where God’s strength meets us. You are doing the hardest and holiest work right now by simply continuing to call out to Jesus on his behalf and refusing to let go of hope.

Two things might help your own heart in this season. First, if you haven’t already, consider seeing a voice therapist or ear, nose, and throat specialist. It is wise to care for the instrument God has given you, alongside prayer. Second, you don’t have to carry this burden alone. Look for a family support group like Al-Anon or a Christian group for loved ones of those struggling with addiction and mental health challenges. Sharing with others who understand can ease the isolation and help you find steady ground when the waves of fear and sorrow hit.

We pray with you now: Lord Jesus, we thank You for the successful surgery and for every small daily improvement in this dear woman’s voice. Restore it fully in Your time, and keep her heart singing even in the waiting. For her son, we ask for Your protection over his body and mind as he sleeps in the woods. Break through his denial, open a door he is willing to walk through, and bring the right people across his path. Hold his mother steady, comfort her tears, give her rest, and fill her with Your peace that passes understanding. In Your strong name, Jesus, amen.

The great Physician has been pleased to grant success to the hands of the surgeon, and for this we bless His holy name. He who formed the ear and the tongue has dealt graciously with you. What a quick eye a parent has, and what a quick eye our heavenly Father turns upon the desires of His children. Your voice, which has been employed for decades as an instrument of praise, now hangs in a time of waiting, yet the Lord who gave you both the voice and the new song shall not suffer the harp to be forever unstrung. The part of the living once spent away in fear must now be restored by His own loving hand. I am persuaded that as you seek fellowship with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, this very longing of your heart is known, and He who forgets not the sighing of the poor will not despise the desire of the humble. God does not let us wait for nothing.

Concerning the sorrow that gnaws at your heart for your son, who sleeps among the woods and refuses the offered help, I feel the sharpness of that grief. To cry out to the Lord Jesus on behalf of one who seems to choose a record over restoration, and who has interests apart from his father and his God, is to taste the bitterness of a parent’s love. The old father in the parable had a very long range of eye-sight; and though the prodigal could not see him in the distance, he could see the prodigal. And the father's first thought when he saw him was this, O my poor son, O my poor boy! that ever he should have brought himself into such a state as this! The Lord sees your son even now, and He marks every step he takes upon that hard path. Do not fall into the delusion that your infant will naturally choose the right and abhor the wrong, yet do not let your heart sink under the wave of powerlessness. Do not forget that a bad king’s good son was sought out by God’s Sovereign, electing Love, and that even the son of Hezekiah, who turned so wickedly, was yet the child of a father earnest with God.

You have not come to a father who would kick his child. The representation of Christ in this parable would be shattered if you imagined such a thing. The father ran, he fell on his neck, he kissed him much, and thus made him feel happy then and there. That kiss was the seal of forgiveness, the recognition of a relationship which the riotous living could not sever. I might regret that he had ever been born and cry with David, "O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for you," but I could not shut him out of my house, nor refuse to call him my child. My child he is and my child he shall be till he dies. Cry on, for the resolve in the far country must become a deed, and before the son has had time to notice who it is, the Father is on him. The kisses of love may come privately now, in the hidden woods, but we trust they shall be given afterwards before men, where others can see him restored and clothed in his right mind.

Take heed that the voice of the elder brother does not creep into your spirit, souring your hope or making you sound as one who would drive the prodigal to steal away again. You sometimes think he will never come back, but ###, you are a great way off, it is true, but your Father's eyes can see you! The testimony of many a young prodigal received in the same way stands before us, here he stands, it is I, myself. The Lord has laid upon His Son the work of healing this sin-smitten world, and He looks upon His Son, Jesus, bearing our sin. When the Father saw His only-begotten Son suffering, even to death, it made such an infinite impression upon His great soul that He forgot the sins for which His Son gave His life. It is not for us to know if the fatted calf is being prepared for the younger son, but we know it is ready for every soul that has already believed in Christ tonight, I know it is! A song shall yet rise from your lips, and a better song shall yet echo from the heart of your restored boy, to the praise of the Father and the Son.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Praise the Lord for the success of your surgery! This is a gift of mercy, and we thank Him with you. But I see your heart trembles for your voice, that sweet instrument you have offered for decades to His praise. Why do you fear? The same power that guided the surgeon’s hand can quicken again the song in your throat. Yet do not be confident as though health were owed to you; many who sang yesterday are silent today, and many who lost their voice have had it restored. Pray, watch, and while you cannot yet sing with the lips, sing with the spirit. The Lord hears the silent melody of a grateful heart. Wait on Him who makes the mute to speak, and do not let anxiety choke your thanksgiving.

But the heavier grief presses: your son. He sleeps in the woods, refuses the court’s treatment, chooses a record over accountability. You cry, and you call on Jesus. Do not think your tears fall unseen. They are a sacrifice, a prayer without words. The prodigal also fled, until hunger woke him. Your son is sick, sick in soul and mind, and like a patient who spits out the medicine, he flees the only cure. Yet the Great Physician sometimes allows the fever to rise, that the thirst for healing may come. This help he scorns, it is a bitter cup, but it could be his salvation. Pray that the very hardness of his bed on the cold ground will teach him what a warm bed of obedience could not.

You feel powerless. That is the truest place of power, for when we are weak, then are we strong in Him. Do not let him on the stave, leaning on that splintered staff of his own will, cause you to despair. Many sick have become whole, and many who seemed whole have fallen low. So do not cease your crying day and night. The Lord who fashioned your son and saw all his promise loves him more than you can fathom. Perhaps this breaking of your heart is the instrument God will use to break his chains. Lay your helplessness before the altar and say, “Lord, I cannot, but You can.” And as you wait, let your voice, returning or still weak, be joined to that prayer. Sing when you can; when you cannot, let your tears be your psalm.

Now, do not let the enemy steal your joy in the one mercy by overwhelming you with the other grief. Hold both before the Lord: the healing given and the healing still desired. He is able to restore voice and son alike. Give thanks, weep, and trust.
