Good Morning Family,
"Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning" - Psalm 30:5
Dark Night of the Soul was penned by the Spanish poet Saint John of the Cross. Saint John of the Cross was a Roman Catholic mystic who describes in various details his journey towards a union with God. He explains the details, progress and reflections towards this union. The dark night is metaphorical for when one lets go of their personal desires to a place of surrender. Giving up a place of apparent being to the place of journeying towards the apparent unknown. One could call this a frightening experience...
It is certainly true that when we dedicate ourselves to spiritual illumination and transformation that the unknown will soon be discovered. There are so many perplexities to a spiritual plane. In this quest, God can be so close while during other periods God can seem so distant. Even at times, God can appear to have totally abandoned us altogether...
This is what is known as the Dark Night of the Soul. This period may seem to be dark. This period may seem to be a place of the unknown. This period may seem to cause us to question the meaning for the quest. It is during this period that we come to love a Sovereign God and we truly find the joy and meaning in life that we have been longing for...
"How deeply I need You...O Lord...like the desert needs the rain...I need You...like the morning needs the sun...I need You..."
