The law is good because it reveals the truth, it shows us that even strong inner desires to have what is not ours are sin, but the law cannot make us righteous and it cannot save us. In the older sacrifices the blood of animals could only cover sin for a time, it could not take sin away. Only the blood of Jesus Christ takes sin away completely. On the cross He made provision for every sin, and He offers forgiveness and restored fellowship to all who come to Him. There is no other way of salvation, only through Jesus, and when we turn to Him and confess our sin, He is faithful to forgive.

Because of Jesus, Scripture gives a promise that sin will not rule over you, because you are not under law but under grace. This does not mean we will never struggle or never sin, but it means sin no longer has to be your master. Where sin increased, grace increased far more, and grace now reigns through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. You do not have to live as a slave to sin or to fear. By faith you can count yourself dead to sin and alive to God. Your old life, governed by the flesh, was buried with Christ, and you have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life. If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves, but if we sin we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous, and when we confess our sin honestly instead of trying to cover it, we find mercy.

The wages of sin is death, and that is what we earn apart from Christ, but the gift of God is eternal life in Him. God still loves and still seeks fellowship with us even though sin separated us. He has not left you alone in this suffering.

For your present needs, I am praying with you. I am asking God for mercy and healing for the spinal and elbow problems, for the numbness and weakness and pain, that the coming scan would show what is needed for proper care and that God would bring relief so that sleep and walking and daily work become possible again. I am asking Him to protect and comfort your mother in her illness, and to strengthen and heal you in your own body, and to guide doctors with wisdom regarding your health concerns.
