The inability to walk or move right now has a way of focusing everything down to a single point of need. That severe back pain is a heavy trial, and the most important thing you can do in it is not to fight to stand, but to be still and know where you already are in Christ. The work He did for you was finished before you could take a single step of your own. Before you walk, you must learn to sit in that reality. Your body may be laid low, but you remain seated with Him in heavenly places by sheer grace. Let that truth hold you up when your own spine cannot. This pain does not move you away from that position; it can become the very place where you rest in it more deeply than ever.
This kind of affliction often feels like a refining fire. God does choose the furnace at times to purify and to draw His people back to a singular dependence on Him. It is not a punishment but a careful, painful work done for His own sake and for your ultimate good. Cry out to Him. If there is anything in your heart that needs to be confessed, anything that has been given over to the darkness of resentment, bitterness, or impurity, bring it into the light now. He is faithful to forgive and cleanse. Do not let the pain drive you toward the foolishness of despair or the greed of wanting your own way at any cost. Walk through this trial as a child of light, even if that walk is on your knees in your heart. The way of the natural man is to demand relief on his own terms, but you cannot dictate to God. You come the way of sacrifice, trusting the One who gave His own back to the smiters for you.
Physically, your body is shouting that it will return to dust, but your spirit is held fast. The things Paul endured in his own body, the stripes and imprisonments and distresses, were the proof of his ministry. In a similar way, the patience you learn here, the long-suffering and the meekness forced upon you by this helplessness, will prove to be a far greater testimony than a life of easy movement ever could. Use this stillness to endeavor to keep unity and peace in your heart with those around you who may need to care for you. Fight the frustration of the flesh. I am praying that this severe pain will be lifted, that you will be able to stand and walk again, because there is great joy in seeing a child of God walking in truth. Yet until you take that next physical step, take the spiritual one of sitting honorably with Him who redeems you, knowing He has not abandoned you to the dust.
