Chrysostom
Beloved of All
You have done well to surrender everything to Jesus, the source of all wisdom. For the world’s wisdom, which passes away and cannot even profit its possessors here, is foolishness before God. When we sail into the unknown, we must not float on human reasonings alone, as if there were no Pilot; but let us unfurl the sails of faith and take the divine Scriptures as our vessel. Then the Word of God Himself will be present to guide.
Pray, then, that your son may receive that hidden wisdom which the Lord has foreordained unto our glory, a wisdom not of this age’s rulers, who are coming to naught, but the heavenly prudence that begins with the fear of the Lord. Whether in the written examination or in the very air, let him not trust only in the skill of his hands, but in the One who gives the Spirit without measure. For even the Apostle needed not only to teach but to pray, and so I add my petition to yours: May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with him, granting him a sound mind, steady nerves, and a heart set on things above. And if he prospers in this license, let him boast not in the world’s honors, but in the Lord.
My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.
