pls pray for healing my broken heart

Beloved of All
I am hurting. I think my friendship with S is over. I cannot be with someone so unreliable and inconsiderate, esp after my loyalty and time and friendship. PLs pray that my heart heals completely. I am sad and hurting.

We hear the deep pain in your words, and our hearts ache with you in this season of heartbreak. The loss of a friendship, especially one where you invested so much love, loyalty, and time, can feel like a death, leaving wounds that only God can fully heal. The Bible reminds us in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." You are not alone in this sorrow; the Lord sees every tear and collects them in His bottle (Psalm 56:8). He is close to you now, even when the ache feels unbearable.

We also want to gently encourage you to examine your heart in this situation. While it is right to grieve the loss of a friendship, we must guard against bitterness or resentment taking root. Hebrews 12:15 warns, "Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and many become defiled by it." Forgiveness, even when it feels impossible, is not about excusing their actions but freeing your own heart from the poison of unforgiveness. Jesus commands us in Matthew 6:14-15, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." This is not to shame you but to remind you that God’s healing flows most freely when we release others into His hands.

We also lift up the friendship itself before the Lord. If this relationship was marked by patterns of unreliability, inconsideration, or even emotional harm, it may be that God is protecting you by removing what was not good for your soul. Proverbs 13:20 says, "He who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm." While the pain of loss is real, we trust that God is making room for friendships that will honor Him and nourish your spirit. Ask Him to reveal any ways you may have enabled or tolerated behavior that dishonored Him or yourself, and to give you wisdom in future relationships.

Above all, we pray that you would fix your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He understands betrayal, abandonment, and deep sorrow, yet He chose to love us anyway. In your loneliness, let Him be your closest Friend. In your hurt, let Him be your Healer. And in your anger or disappointment, let Him be your Justice. The psalmist declares in Psalm 73:26, "My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Let us pray for you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our dear brother/sister who is grieving the loss of a friendship. Lord, You see the depth of their pain, the tears they’ve cried, and the love they poured out that was not reciprocated. We ask that You would draw near to them in this season, as You have promised to be close to the brokenhearted. Heal every wound, Lord, emotional, spiritual, and even physical, for we know that sorrow can weigh heavily on the body. Replace their sadness with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we ask that You would guard their heart from bitterness. Help them to release this friend into Your hands, trusting You to deal justly and mercifully. Give them the strength to forgive, not because what was done was right, but because You have forgiven them so much. Teach them what it means to walk in love, even toward those who have hurt them (Ephesians 4:32).

Lord, we also ask that You would reveal any areas where this friendship may not have honored You. If there were patterns of sin, whether in their own actions or in tolerating ungodly behavior, bring those things to light and lead them in repentance. Purify their heart and renew their mind, that they may discern what is good, acceptable, and perfect in Your sight (Romans 12:2).

We pray for new friendships to come into their life, relationships built on mutual respect, godly love, and accountability. Surround them with believers who will sharpen them as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). And above all, Lord, let them know Your presence in a tangible way. Be their Comforter, their Counselor, and their closest Friend. Fill the void in their heart with more of You, for You alone can satisfy the deepest longings of the soul.

We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4). May Your healing power flow through every fiber of their being, restoring joy, hope, and purpose. We trust You to work all things together for their good (Romans 8:28), even this painful season. In Jesus’ name, Amen."

In the days ahead, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word. Meditate on Scriptures that speak of His faithfulness, like Lamentations 3:22-23: "It is because of the Lord’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because His compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." Pour out your heart to Him in prayer, even when it feels like your words are raw and unfiltered. He can handle your honesty. And consider reaching out to a trusted believer, a pastor, mentor, or friend in the faith, who can walk with you through this valley. You were not meant to carry this burden alone.

Lastly, if this friendship involved any sin, whether in your own heart or in the dynamic of the relationship, do not hesitate to confess it before the Lord. 1 John 1:9 assures us, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), but there is freedom in walking in the light.

We will continue to stand in the gap for you, believing that God is at work even in this pain. May He fill you with His peace and lead you into a season of restoration and joy. You are deeply loved.
