The Parent’s and Pastor’s Joy
The greatest joy for parents and pastors is seeing their children live out God’s truth in daily life.
The Old Folks’ Visit
The love between parent and child endures beyond time and death and calls us to cherish those bonds now.
Crumbs under the Table
Sin brutalizes and chains us like a dog, so we must reject its deceptive promises and turn to Christ for mercy.
We hear your heart in this request and we join with you in bringing this desire before the Lord, even the small desires about our appearance matter to Him because He cares for us. We understand wanting your hair to grow longer by Christmas and hoping for a shampoo that will help, and we also hear that your parents are involved in this, though your message was cut short.

We want to gently encourage you with what Scripture says about beauty and our bodies. God formed you with care and purpose, as it is written Psalm 139:14 You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us that man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart. For a woman, long hair can be a beautiful gift, for it is written 1 Corinthians 11:15 if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her, for her hair is given to her for a covering. Yet the Lord also calls us to value the inner beauty that does not fade, as 1 Peter 3:3-4 says Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing, but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

We encourage you to keep this desire in proper perspective. It is not wrong to want to care for your hair and to look your best, but we do not want outward appearance to become a source of anxiety or discontent. True contentment and joy come from seeking Him first, as Matthew 6:33 says But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. We also encourage you to honor your parents in this matter, as Ephesians 6:1-2 teaches Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother. If they have concerns about cost or about a product, trust their wisdom and talk with them with respect and patience. Hair grows slowly, about a half inch each month, and no shampoo can miraculously make it grow overnight, but good stewardship of your body through healthy nutrition, rest, gentle care, and patience is the best way to support healthy hair.

We notice you said please lord, but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus Himself said John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not yet put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, we encourage you to call upon His name today, confess your need for Him, and follow Him as Lord and Savior. It is in His name we pray with confidence.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this young heart to You. Thank You for creating her in Your image and for caring about even the small details of her life. We thank You that she desires to care for herself and we ask You to give her contentment and peace in how You have made her. Help her to find her identity and beauty first in Christ and in a gentle and quiet spirit that is precious to You. We pray for her parents, give them wisdom and grace as they guide her, and help her to honor them with obedience and thankfulness. Lord, if it is Your will, provide what is needed for her hair to be healthy and to grow, and help her to be patient and to steward her body well. Above all, draw her closer to You this Christmas season, that she would remember that Christmas is about the birth of Your Son Jesus, our greatest gift. Fill her heart with joy that does not depend on outward things. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep praying, to trust the Lord with this desire, and to rest in His love for you whether your hair grows a little or a lot by Christmas. He sees your heart and He is faithful.

We noticed your prayer about wanting your hair to grow longer by Christmas, and we hear the excitement in it. It matters to you, and it matters to God when something matters to you.

Waiting for hair to grow can feel slow, especially when you have a picture in your mind of how you want to look for the holidays. It is normal to wish there was a quick product that could make it happen overnight, and it is also understandable to feel a little disappointed when growth takes time.

One helpful next step could be to talk openly with your parents about what you are hoping for and ask what gentle, age appropriate hair care they are comfortable with. If they are open to it, a trusted hairdresser or barber can also give simple advice on keeping hair healthy while it grows, which is often more helpful than chasing a special shampoo.

We are praying for you as Christmas approaches, that you would feel at peace and confident just as you are, and that you would enjoy the season without extra pressure about appearance.

Father, thank you for this young heart and this simple wish. Give peace, patience and joy in the weeks ahead, and help them know they are wonderfully made and loved by you. In Jesus name, amen.

Your earnest petition concerning your hair has been brought before us, and we have heard your desire that it might grow longer by Christmas.

There is in the human heart a natural wish for comeliness, yet we would gently lead your thoughts to a higher beauty and a deeper contentment. Contentment is one of the flowers of heaven, and if we would have it, it must be cultivated, and that not by any stoic process of self government, but simply and exclusively by faith in the Son of God. Remember that a man's contentment is in his mind, not in the extent of his possessions, nor in the length of his hair, nor in any outward adornment. The Lord who formed you has done all things well, and He would have you find your peace in His wise providence rather than in the fulfilling of every wish.

We would also set before you the pearl of patience. You have heard of the patience of Job, the patience of a greatly tried man, imperfect and full of infirmity, yet sustained by grace. That patience was learned not in the day of ease but in the day of trial, and it became a power for good. To wait, to trust, to be still under the hand of God, this is a greater attainment than to obtain at once what we desire. If the Lord withholds or grants this small matter of outward appearance, He does so in love, to teach you that your worth is not in what is seen by the eye, but in the inward adorning of a meek and quiet spirit, which in the sight of God is of great price.

Take then this season for honest self examination. Set Caution and Self examination at the helm, and cry with the Psalmist, Search me and know my heart. Ask yourself whether this desire springs from simple gratitude for health and youth, or from vanity and a restless craving for what you have not. Every Christian in proportion as he lives near to God will feel a lowliness of heart, and will be kept from making much of outward things. And forget not to honour your parents in this matter, for the Lord has placed you under their care, and obedience rendered to them in the Lord is both comely and blessed.

We will pray for you, not that a mere preparation of man might work as by magic, but that the Lord would give you health of body, peace of mind, and above all a contented heart resting in Christ. May He teach you to be satisfied with such things as you have, to be patient under every little disappointment, and to seek first that inward grace which never fades. May you grow not only in stature, but in grace, and in the knowledge and love of our Lord Jesus Christ, in whom alone is our true adornment and our lasting joy.
