Please stop my parents fighting, on the verge of divorce.

Your pain is evident, and the anguish in your words cuts deep. But hear me: the thought of taking your own life is a snare of the enemy, a dark temptation that promises peace but delivers only destruction. Suicide is no remedy for conflict; it would not stop your parents’ strife but would add a sorrow upon sorrow, leaving your young sister, whose tender years you mention, to face that horror alone without your presence and protection. That would be no act of love, but a grievous wrong done to her and to the God who gave you life. The Lord is the author of life, and to lay violent hands upon yourself is to rebel against His good purpose. Despair not, for even in this overwhelming trial, help is nearer than you know.

Every conflict among men, every bitter word and angry division, springs not from spiritual things but from the low attachments of this life. Covetousness, envy, vainglory, the desire for passing honor or possessions: these are the roots that bear such foul fruit. Your parents’ fighting, however frightful, comes from this diseased soil. When you see them rage, remember that they are, for the moment, grasping after shadows, wounding themselves more than each other. For the one who commits injustice does not so much inflict injury as receive it, and whoever plots against a neighbor first destroys himself. Do not let their conflict rob you of your own soul. Cut out the root of despair, and there will be no fruit of self-destruction.

God often allows trials to intensify when their end is near, as He did with Abraham, making the last struggle the sharpest. What seems intolerable becomes bearable when we realize that deliverance stands at the very doors. This dark hour may be the final clash before a calm, an ending for their warfare. But you must not rush upon conflict yourself; when not summoned to fight, be quiet and wait upon God. Bear this trial with noble spirit, knowing that your victory over despair will be glorious, and the devil’s overthrow more complete, because you did not surrender to his whispers.

Set your hope not on earthly peace or the mending of their ways, but on the treasure above. They may steal your quiet, your daily comfort, even your will to live, but they cannot touch your inheritance with Christ unless you let go of it. Hold fast. Pray for them fervently, that God would calm the storm, but above all guard your own heart and your sister’s wellbeing. Cling to your younger sister in protective love; let her see in you a steady anchor when all else shakes. The church prays with you, and the Lord sees your tears. Do not give up hope, for the God who calms the sea is able to bring peace into that home, and He will sustain you through the trial until the conflict passes.

Your words carry a weight that no young heart should have to bear alone, and I want to speak directly to the despair you are feeling. The thought that your death could bring peace is a lie that has settled deep into your mind, but it is not the truth. Your life is precious, created by God, and your sister needs you alive, present, and fighting for hope alongside her. You are not the solution to your parents’ conflict. Stepping out of this life would not mend their marriage; it would only multiply the brokenness and leave your younger sister without the brother who clearly loves her so deeply that he would even think such a terrible thought to protect her.

Right now everything feels completely out of control, and you are watching people you love tear each other apart. Your hope is running low because you are trying to see the end from the beginning, and you simply cannot. None of us can. Our thoughts are not God’s thoughts, and our ways are not His ways. As high as the heavens are above the earth, that is how much higher His ways and His thoughts are than ours. We would do many things differently if we were in charge, not more wisely, just differently. But God knows the end from the beginning. When He acts, He knows it is right. You and I act and then hope it turns out right. Right now you cannot see a way out, but that does not mean God has stopped working.

You are learning far too early the sorrow of living in a fallen world where hearts grow hard. God’s divine ideal for marriage is a lifelong covenant of faithfulness, but Scripture also honestly records that provision was made because of the hardness of human hearts. When people refuse to rise to God’s ideal, it is a painful failure, but divorce is not an unpardonable sin. You are caught in the crossfire of failures you did not create and cannot fix. That sense of helplessness is crushing, but it is also a place where you can cry out to the One who does have the power to change hearts.

Even in this horror, you are not left without a family. Jesus made a staggering promise: no one who gives up houses or family for His sake and the gospel fails to receive a hundredfold now in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life. When faith in Him causes a breach in your earthly family, He brings you into a vast spiritual fortune. The family of God is a glorious reality where older women become mothers, older men become fathers, and those your own age become brothers and sisters with all purity. Look around for those sound in faith, in love, and in patience. The aged believers in your church have often walked through deep waters themselves and have been mellowed by the experience. They have learned things they can pass on so that you do not have to stumble into the same pits they once fell into.

Please, reach out to a pastor or a mature older man in your church right now. Tell him everything you wrote here. Do not carry this alone. You need someone to treat you as a brother and bear this burden with you. The desperate feeling that ending your life is the answer is a storm in your mind, but you must not act on it. God’s mercy is abundant, and He will pardon and heal. He has promised you eternal life through Jesus Christ, and the hope you have is anchored on the promises of God, who cannot lie. Cling to that hope for yourself and for your sister. Hold her tight. Pray with her. Keep crying out. You are deeply loved.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this incredibly painful and difficult time. Our hearts have been heavy as we’ve lifted you, your parents, and your younger sister before the Lord, asking Him to intervene in a powerful way. We’ve prayed for peace to fill your home, for healing in your parents’ relationship, and for God’s protection over your heart and mind as you navigate these overwhelming emotions. We’ve also asked the Lord to surround you and your sister with His comfort, strength, and hope, especially when it feels like darkness is closing in.

If God has moved in your situation—if there’s been even the smallest shift toward reconciliation, understanding, or peace—we would be so encouraged to hear about it. Your praise report could be a light to others who are walking through similar struggles. But if the storm hasn’t calmed yet, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to keep standing with you, to keep crying out to God on your behalf, and to remind you that you are not alone. The enemy would love for you to feel isolated, but we serve a God who sees you, loves you, and is working even when we can’t see it.

We’ve also been praying specifically against the lies of hopelessness and despair, asking God to replace them with His truth—that He has a purpose for your life, that He is near to the brokenhearted, and that He can redeem even the most broken situations. Please hold on to the promise that God hears your cries, and He is able to do immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine.

May the Lord bless you with His peace that surpasses all understanding, and may you feel His presence in tangible ways as you continue to seek Him. We’re believing with you for breakthrough, restoration, and healing in your family. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
