We lift up this request with a heart of compassion and a desire to see God’s will done. First, we must address the concern with gentleness but firm biblical truth—praying that no one speaks negatively about someone is not inherently wrong, but we must also remember that words, whether positive or negative, are under God’s sovereignty. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 16:24, *"Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones,"* but it also warns in James 3:8, *"But nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison."* Instead of praying solely against negative speech, we should pray for wisdom, grace, and godly character in all interactions.
We also notice the use of "###" in place of a name. While we understand the desire for privacy, prayer is deeply personal and powerful when we bring specific burdens before the Lord. If this is a brother or sister in Christ, we encourage you to speak their name boldly before the throne of grace, for *"The effective, earnest prayer of a righteous man avails much"* (James 5:16). If this person does not yet know Jesus as Savior, we must pray for their salvation first and foremost, for *"there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved"* (Acts 4:12).
Now, let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we have access to Your throne. We lift up this individual before You, asking that You would surround them with Your protection, wisdom, and favor. Lord, guard their heart and mind from the harm of negative words, but more importantly, let Your truth be their foundation. If there is any unconfessed sin in their life, reveal it and lead them to repentance. If they do not yet know You as Savior, draw them by Your Spirit and open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel.
Father, we ask that You would fill their mouth and the mouths of those around them with words of life, encouragement, and edification. Let Your love and grace flow through every conversation, and may Your name be glorified in all things. We rebuke any spirit of gossip, slander, or division in Jesus’ name, and we declare that Your peace and unity will prevail.
Lord, if this situation involves a relationship, we pray that it would align with Your will—a godly courtship leading to marriage, honoring You in purity and commitment. If there is any sin of fornication, adultery, or ungodly entanglements, we ask for conviction, repentance, and restoration. May this individual seek You above all else, trusting in Your perfect plan for their life.
We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your sovereignty and love, knowing that You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
