Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for bringing this need forward and for having a heart to intercede for this woman you met in the hospital. It is a good and Christlike thing to carry another person before the Lord in prayer, especially for both her physical need and her eternal need.
We will join you in praying for her health. Scripture shows us that God cares about the body as well as the soul. When Matthew speaks of what was written about the suffering servant bearing our sicknesses, he applies it directly to Jesus healing people of their physical illnesses. That helps us see that the work of Christ is not limited only to forgiveness of sin, though forgiveness is the greatest part. God is able and willing to touch and heal the body according to His wisdom and mercy, and we can ask Him with confidence to bring healing and strength to her.
At the same time the greatest miracle in any life is salvation. Physical healing is important, but it is temporary in this life, while the forgiveness of sins and new life in Jesus Christ lasts forever. That is why we will pray most earnestly that she comes to know Jesus as Savior and Lord. The gospel is the same for everyone. Jesus showed this when He spoke with the Samaritan woman who had a broken past with many failed marriages and was then living outside of marriage. He did not avoid her. He revealed Himself to her plainly as the Messiah, the first time He did so so directly, and offered her living water. His disciples were surprised that He would talk so openly with a woman like her, but He showed that no one is beyond His reach and that the same message of salvation is for all.
Salvation is simple and it is of the Lord. It is not earned by works. As Scripture teaches, if a person confesses with the mouth that Jesus is Lord and believes in the heart that God raised Him from the dead, that person will be saved. Even the thief on the cross who could do nothing more than turn to Jesus in faith received that promise. There is no special formula or pattern God must follow. Like the woman who had bled for years and believed that if she could just touch the hem of His garment she would be made whole, what matters is genuine faith reaching out to Jesus Himself. He responds to that faith.
We encourage you to keep praying and, as God gives opportunity, to gently share with her the hope you have in Christ, whether by your testimony, a kind word, or simply letting her know Jesus loves her and died and rose again for her. God often uses our prayers and our witness together.
Let us pray together for her. Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this woman to You. You know her name, her condition, and every detail of her life. We ask You to lay Your healing hand upon her body and bring restoration as it pleases You. Above all, we ask that You open her heart to receive Your Son. Draw her to Yourself, show her her need for forgiveness, and help her to confess Jesus as Lord and believe that You raised Him from the dead. Give her eternal life and peace with You. Comfort her in her suffering, surround her with Your presence, and use this time to make Yourself known to her. We also pray for the one who met her, that You would give continued compassion, wisdom, and boldness to love her well. In Jesus name, Amen.
