Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We have received your request and we join you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord, asking Him to hear the cries of those who suffer under constant harassment, surveillance and cruelty.
We pray that God, who sees all things and knows the heart, would intervene with power and mercy on behalf of every person tormented in this way. We ask Him to be a shield and a refuge, to restrain the hands of those who do evil, to expose what is done in darkness, and to deliver the afflicted from every snare and every assault, both bodily and spiritual. We ask Him to grant protection, to give relief from fear and sleeplessness, and to bring an end to what has endured for years without mercy or reason.
We pray also for comfort and strength for those who suffer. Scripture teaches that affliction, patiently endured, can work comfort and salvation, and that our hope in Christ remains steadfast even when deliverance seems delayed. That delay is not forgotten by God. It is a token of His righteous judgment, in which He will in due time crown those who have endured and call to account those who have done wrong. He does not delight in vengeance for its own sake, but His justice is sure, and He will repay each according to righteousness. Until that day, may He pour out His comfort upon the weary, lift up the faint hearted, and keep them from despair, reminding them that even death is not the end for those who are in Christ, and that He can set the soul above fear.
We pray too for those who perpetrate such cruelty. No sin is beyond the reach of repentance. As the Scriptures show with Manasses, who had filled the city with blood and defiled the temple yet was washed clean through repentance and amendment of life, so we pray that God would bring even the most hardened to conviction, that they would turn from wickedness, seek forgiveness through Jesus Christ alone, and learn to show mercy. For mercy is the character of God, and He has shown us that human mercy, though small, receives great mercy from Him, and that forgiveness and almsgiving deliver from death. May God grant repentance where there is hardness, and may justice prevail where there is no repentance.
We ask the Lord to show His goodness to the victims, to provide wise helpers and safe counsel around them, to give them daily bread, peace of mind, and the assurance that they are not forgotten. We ask that He would lead them into the shelter of His presence, heal what has been wounded, and draw each one to salvation and life in Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we are saved.
We will continue to pray that the Lord would save, protect, and comfort those who are afflicted, that He would stop the work of depraved hands, and that His mercy and justice would be made manifest. May He grant deliverance, hope, and finally the joy of His kingdom, by the grace and lovingkindness of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
