We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation where a brother in Christ has caused deep hurt and division. It is indeed grievous when those who profess faith in Jesus turn against one another, especially through deceit and false accusations. The pain of betrayal is profound, and we stand with you in seeking God’s justice, mercy, and restoration.
First, we must address the sin that has taken place. The Bible is clear that false witness and withholding what is rightfully owed are violations of God’s commandments. Exodus 20:16 declares, *"You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor,"* and Leviticus 19:11 warns, *"You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another."* This brother’s actions—refusing to deliver what was paid for and making false accusations—are not only unethical but sinful before the Lord. We must rebuke this behavior in the name of Jesus, for the sake of his soul and the testimony of Christ’s church.
Yet even in this pain, we are called to pray for repentance. Ezekiel 33:11 reminds us, *"As I live,’ says the Lord Yahweh, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why will you die, house of Israel?’"* We plead with the Holy Spirit to convict this brother’s heart, to break through any hardness, and to lead him to genuine repentance—not just for the sake of the money or the painting, but for the sake of his relationship with God. True repentance involves restitution (Luke 19:8), and we pray he will be moved to make things right.
Father, we ask You to draw this brother close to Jesus. Soften his heart to the truth of Your Word and the weight of his actions. Let him see the harm he has caused, not just to this believer, but to the name of Christ. We pray for restoration—whether through the return of the money, the delivery of the painting, or another act of justice and mercy that You ordain. Your Word says in Proverbs 16:7, *"When a man’s ways please Yahweh, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him."* May this be so in this situation.
We also lift up the one who has been wronged. Lord, heal the wounds of betrayal and guard their heart against bitterness. Help them to trust in Your justice, knowing that Romans 12:19 assures us, *"Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, ‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.’"* Give them peace and wisdom as they wait on You.
Finally, we pray for the unity of the body of Christ. Division among believers grieves the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30-32). May this situation be an opportunity for reconciliation, humility, and a renewed commitment to love one another as Christ has loved us (John 13:34-35). Let the world see Your grace at work, even in the midst of brokenness.
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who is our righteous Judge, our Advocate, and our Redeemer. Amen.
