Please pray that God helps me to be better in my friendships.

We hear your heart’s cry for growth in your friendships, and we stand with you in seeking God’s wisdom and transformation in this area. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 13:20, "He who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm." Friendships are a gift from the Lord, but they also require intentionality, humility, and a commitment to reflect Christ in all our interactions.

First, let us examine whether our friendships are rooted in godly love and truth. Are we speaking life into others, as Ephesians 4:29 instructs, "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear"? Or are we allowing gossip, negativity, or selfishness to creep in? True friendship should sharpen one another in faith, as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), and point each other toward Christ.

We must also ask if we are extending grace and forgiveness when friendships are strained. Colossians 3:13 reminds us, "Bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do." Holding onto bitterness or resentment only poisons our hearts and hinders the work God wants to do in us.

Let us also consider whether we are being a friend who reflects Christ’s love. John 15:13 says, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." Are we willing to sacrifice our time, preferences, and even our pride to serve and love others well? True friendship is not about what we can gain but about how we can bless and encourage others in their walk with the Lord.

Father, we come before You now, lifting up this dear one who desires to grow in their friendships. Lord, You are the ultimate example of perfect friendship—You laid down Your life for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). Teach us to love as You love, to forgive as You forgive, and to walk in humility and grace with those around us.

Help us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger (James 1:19), so that our words and actions build others up rather than tear them down. Give us discernment to choose friends who will encourage us in our faith and hold us accountable to Your truth. Where we have failed in our friendships, whether through selfishness, gossip, or neglect, convict us, Lord, and lead us to repentance and restoration.

Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we may overflow with Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). May our friendships be a testimony to Your grace and a reflection of Your heart for Your people.

We also pray for those who may feel lonely or struggle to find godly friendships. Lord, surround them with believers who will sharpen them in faith and walk alongside them in life’s journey. Open doors for meaningful connections that honor You and bring glory to Your name.

Finally, Father, we ask that You guard our hearts from any friendships that would lead us away from You. Give us the strength to walk away from relationships that are toxic, ungodly, or distracting from Your purpose for our lives. Help us to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness (Matthew 6:33), trusting that You will provide every good and perfect gift in Your timing.

We commit these friendships to You, Lord, and ask that You shape us into the friends You have called us to be. May our lives and our relationships bring honor to Your name and draw others closer to You. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
