Please pray for ###

Kuydoreth

Humble Servant of All
Please pray for me that God give me the same thing I have felt in my former friend, ###, It is a certain quality, or something else entirely beyond my ability to describe or comprehend, that seems to cause the devil to flee simply by its presence. I do not know what it is or how to name it, but I ask God to grant me this very same thing and establish it as a permanent attribute of my being. so that the devil flees whenever he draws near. I pray that God Himself would bestow this upon me and make it an inseparable part of my being, according to His sovereign will. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

We join with you in this prayer and we hear the deep hunger in your heart for holiness and for the very presence of God to rest upon you so that the enemy must flee.

What you sensed in your former friend is not a mysterious force that can be transferred from one person to another, but we believe it was the presence of Christ Himself dwelling in a believer who is submitted to God. Scripture tells us plainly what makes the devil flee. James 4:7 says Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. And 1 John 4:4 says He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. It is not a quality we can possess apart from Christ, it is Christ in us, the Holy Spirit living within us, that the enemy cannot stand against.

We want to gently encourage you to seek not an experience or an attribute as an end in itself, but to seek the Person of Jesus Christ and to abide in Him daily. When we walk in obedience, in purity, in the Word and in prayer, we are transformed into His image. 2 Corinthians 3:18 reminds us that we are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit. The fruit of that abiding life is love, joy, peace, and holiness, as described in Galatians 5:22-23, and the armor of God described in Ephesians 6:11 enables us to stand against the wiles of the devil. The enemy flees not because of something mystical in us, but because of the authority of Jesus and a life surrendered to Him.

We also rejoice that you prayed in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we have victory. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. And Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Continue to rest in that salvation and to walk closely with Him.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to Your throne of grace. We ask that You would fill them anew with Your Holy Spirit and make Your presence an inseparable part of their being according to Your sovereign will. Grant them a heart fully submitted to You, cleansed by the blood of Jesus, rooted in Your Word, and strengthened to resist the devil so that he must flee. Clothe them with the full armor of God that they may stand firm, and transform them daily into the image of Your Son. Let Christ dwell richly within them, for greater is He that is in them than he that is in the world, and let their life bear the fruit of righteousness and peace that testifies to Your power. Establish them in holiness, in faith, and in love, and let Your perfect love cast out all fear, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as taught in 2 Timothy 1:7. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Thank you for sharing this honest longing with us. We hear how much you want to walk closely with God and to know His protection in a real, settled way, especially after sensing something so distinct in your former friend.

What you describe in sounds like what we often notice when someone is deeply yielded to the Lord, a quiet steadiness, peace and love that reflects the Holy Spirit at work in them. That kind of presence is not a separate quality that can be passed from one person to another, but the fruit of abiding with Christ over time as the Spirit shapes us. God invites us not to chase an experience itself, but to seek Him, and He graciously forms Christlike character in us as we stay near to Him.

We join you in asking that He would draw you closer and make His presence more and more at home in your life according to His will. A helpful next step while you pray is to walk this out with others, perhaps share this desire with a trusted pastor or mature believer in your local church who can pray with you regularly and encourage you in the simple practices that keep us open to the Spirit’s work, like prayer, time in Scripture, and fellowship.

Father, we bring our brother before You in Jesus’ name. We ask that You fill him with Your Holy Spirit, deepen his fellowship with Christ, and make him strong in You. Give him wisdom, peace, and discernment, guard him from the evil one, and lead him daily in Your truth and love. Help him to know he is Yours and to rest in Your care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

There is a true and earnest desire in your prayer to be kept from the power of the evil one, and for that we give thanks, for it shows that you know your enemy to be real and malicious, one who like a roaring lion seeks whom he may devour and who is so cowardly that he loves to strike a man when he is down.

What you felt in your former friend was not, we may be sure, some strange and nameless charm belonging to that person himself. Deliverance from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and we must look for it to our heavenly Father altogether and alone. No man has in himself a quality by which Satan flees. The devil does not flee from man at all, but from Christ in the man, from the Holy Spirit dwelling within, from faith that lays hold upon the ransom which God has found.

Scripture says, Submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. He flees when he meets the blood of the Lamb, the shield which is the Lord's Anointed, the wall of fire which the Lord sets about His own so that even the devil, malicious as he is, cannot break through to do more than the Lord allows. When the clock of mercy strikes the hour of a sinner's deliverance, it is because the King's own Son has borne the penalty of all his iniquities, and the prisoner is delivered from going down to the pit. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy.

Therefore we would not pray that a vague and indescribable something might be transferred from one creature to another and made a permanent part of your nature, for our hope is not in an attribute of our being but in a Person who abides with us. What you need, and what we will entreat the Lord to give you according to His sovereign will, is that which alone makes Satan flee, namely, to be in Christ, to be filled with the Spirit, to be rooted in the Word and in living faith.

When the devil comes and says your Father has forgotten you, or would draw you into sin or despair, you are to tell him to begone. You know too much of your Father to believe his lie. Say to him, Get thee gone, Satan, for it is written, and let the sword of the Spirit do its work. There is never a better time to fight the devil than when you are filled with the Spirit.

Let us pray for you now.

O Lord our God, who hast delivered thy people from the power of darkness and translated them into the kingdom of thy dear Son, we ask not for a mystical possession but for Christ Himself to dwell in this soul by faith. Grant repentance toward thee and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation, for there is no other ransom. If it be thy will, fill this thy servant with thy Holy Spirit, establish him in holiness, keep him by thy power, and make him to stand complete in Christ. Teach him to submit himself to thee daily, to abide in thy Word, to walk in obedience, that resisting the devil in the name and strength of Jesus, he may find the promise true that the enemy will flee. Put about him thy wall of fire, give him thy shield, and let all his deliverance be plainly seen to be of thee, that he may live and declare the works of the Lord. We ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
