Please pray for me that God give me the same thing I have felt in my former friend, ###. It is a certain quality, or something else entirely beyond my ability to describe or comprehend, that seems to cause the devil to flee simply by its presence. I do not know what it is or how to name it, but I ask God to grant me this very same thing and establish it as a permanent attribute of my being. so that the devil flees whenever he draws near. I pray that God Himself would bestow this upon me and make it an inseparable part of my being, according to His sovereign will. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

We hear your heart in this request and we join you in bringing it before the Father in Jesus name. You describe a quality you sensed in your former friend that seemed to cause the enemy to flee simply by its presence, something beyond words, and you ask that God would grant you that same thing and establish it as a permanent and inseparable part of your being according to His sovereign will. We understand this longing, for we all desire to walk in such holiness and power that darkness cannot remain near us.

Scripture shows us what that quality truly is. It is not a mystical transfer from one person to another, but the presence and work of Christ Himself in us through the Holy Spirit. James 4:7 says Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. And 1 John 4:4 says You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. The devil does not flee because of a human attribute we possess in ourselves, but because of the Greater One who dwells within us when we are submitted to God, abiding in Christ and walking in obedience. Ephesians 6:11 reminds us to Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. That armor is Christ's righteousness, truth, faith, salvation and the Word of God lived out daily.

We gently correct the idea that this is something to be imparted from another person as if it were their own possession. What you sensed was likely the fruit of the Spirit and the holiness of Christ being formed in them, and that same transforming work is available to you directly from God. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says But we all, with unveiled face seeing the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit. God does not give us a temporary spiritual experience but makes us new creations and seals us with His Spirit as a permanent indwelling when we belong to Christ. Romans 8:11 says But if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

We rejoice that you asked this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are delivered from the power of darkness. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who hungers for Your presence and Your holiness. We ask that You would fill them anew with Your Holy Spirit and establish Christ fully formed within them. Grant them a life so submitted to You, so rooted in Your Word and so clothed in Your armor that the enemy must flee whenever he draws near, not by any power of their own but by the power of the Greater One who lives in them. Transform them from glory to glory into the image of Your Son and make Your life an inseparable and permanent part of their being according to Your sovereign will. Teach them to abide in Christ, to walk in the light, to bear the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-23, and to resist the devil with a steadfast faith. Keep them in Your perfect peace and holiness all the days of their life. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily through prayer, through feeding on Scripture, through obedience and through fellowship with other believers who walk faithfully with Christ. As you abide in Him, He will abide in you and His presence will become ever more evident in your life. The Lord is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you.

We appreciate you sharing this longing so honestly. Wanting to live with a steady sense of God's nearness and protection, where evil has no foothold, is a good and understandable desire, and we hear how deeply you want what you sensed near your friend to become part of your own life.

What you experienced with him may not be a quality that can be passed from one person to another, but the quiet work of the Holy Spirit making someone more like Jesus. He is our Helper and Comforter, and His work is to shape character over time through truth and love, producing steadiness, peace and strength as we stay close to Christ. It is less like receiving a single imparted thing and more like learning to abide with Jesus day by day.

Your desire for holiness and for deliverance from the power of the evil one is itself a gracious working which we would encourage with all our hearts, and we join you in prayer before the throne of grace.

You speak of a certain quality in another which you cannot name, and you ask that God would make the same thing a permanent part of your being so that the devil may flee. Hear then what the Scripture teaches, for we must not seek a vague influence caught from another, but that practical, personal, active, vital holiness which God Himself works within His people. As it is written, God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness, and without holiness no one shall see the Lord. Holiness is not the cleaning of the outside of the cup and the platter while the heart remains full of wickedness. Morality may skim the surface, but holiness goes into the very caverns of the great deep. It is having a clean inside, a heart set on God and beating with love to Him, a conformity to the will and character of God and a separation from the world. This is not a thing to be borrowed from a friend, but a new nature given by the Holy Spirit through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone.

So also your deliverance from the devil is not by a mysterious aura, but solely by the power of God through the ransom He has found. The law is more glorified by the atoning death of Christ than it was dishonoured by our sin, and the prisoner ready to be executed receives undeserved deliverance because the King's own Son has borne the penalty of all his iniquities. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He brought them forth when the lamb was slain, and He still brings forth His people with a mighty hand. There is a wall of fire round His children, a circle so complete that even the devil, malicious as he is, cannot break through it to do more than the Lord allows. Therefore the way to make the tempter flee is to submit yourselves to God and to resist him steadfast in faith. When he comes and whispers that you are forsaken or that you must be overcome, tell him to begone, for none but the devil could be the author of such a thought. Say to him, Get thee gone, Satan, for my Father has not forgotten me, and my ransom is found in Christ.

We pray for you that the Lord would grant you according to His sovereign will that which is far better than you have asked, even His own holiness established in you by grace, and a full deliverance through the blood of Christ.

O Lord God, who hast not called us to uncleanness but to holiness, look upon this soul who longs to be kept from evil. Grant not a fleeting feeling nor a borrowed impression, but create a clean heart within and renew a right spirit. Wash the inside as well as the outside, and make this one to be holy as Thou art holy, not in perfection of the flesh which none can claim, but in that true and vital holiness which loves Thee and departs from iniquity. Cause this dear one to persevere in holiness, for Thou hast said they shall not depart from Thee when Thou hast put Thy fear in their hearts. Deliver from going down to the pit, for Thou hast found a ransom, even Jesus Christ Thy Son who died and rose again. Let the infernal lion not rend this sheep which the Great Shepherd keeps. Teach this soul to submit to Thee and to resist the devil in the name and merits of Jesus, that he may flee. Keep by Thine own power through faith unto salvation, and make obedience to be freedom and delight. All this we ask not for any worthiness in ourselves, but alone through the Lord Jesus Christ, in whose name is all our hope and our only plea. Amen.
